I just noticed that earlier when I was reviewing them all. I've seen that problem dealt with by having parented objects instead of pieces of the clothing set as "bones." The Lilikh Outfit (very fantastical armor, lol) has that for leg and shoulder pieces, iirc.
Gotta say, 04 is my favorite so far....
It looks more like "real" armor to me, that you could actually move in, and less like Cartoon/World of Warcraft/Fantasy Amor
thinkimagonnagethisone....
I don't like the pointy duck feet, but i will probably get this one today.
needs a codpiece
How would one even walk with those pointy feet? If my shoes are even half a size too big length-wise, I can't walk right.
Some were far worse than that.
Hah. I can see maybe riding in them but not in walking around.
Yep, worn for riding. The spikes were removeable in case the knight had to walk anywhere.
I've bought all 3 of the men's outfits and I think Series 1 and 3 are my favorite with 3 edging them all out. Both series 1 and 3 do need to have tiling increased on the chainmail texture. it gets super big and distorted if you don't.
I thought I would like this new set, series 04, but it is less versatile than the others since large parts of it, are one piece, including the chest piece which covers the lower half of the face. If you hide the opacity so for example to have the character take his helmet off, it leaves the neck exposed. The under armor looks like rubber and is not chain like the others. When the character moves the armor bends weirdly, because its one piece. The feet do not have an optional non-point option, but you can use the series 3 boots but they don't go up far enough to cover the thigh. When I put the pointed shoes on they look really bad.
I think if you are going to go the route of making the outfit one piece, it should simply be a character instead. That way you can avoid the stretching issues and the distortion covering body parts, that you won't be able to see anyway.
I fenced in college. In 1980, when I fenced, fencing jackets had pockets for metal cups over the breasts. I was a foil fencer, and the chest is THE target in foil. Getting hit with a foil is kind of like being rammed with a car antenna. (After a bout, I had dime-sized bruises on my thighs. They weren't big, but they were painful.) The idea of having someone ram my boob with no protection .... well, think of somebody doing that to your crotch, and you have the general idea. Not just no, but HELL no.
To throw in two cents on the female/boob armor debate... Knight Series 02 is what convinced me to pay attention to this promotion, because it's the first armor I've seen on Daz that reminds me of women's fantasy armor designed during the armor period:
(shameless plug: check out my blog for more cool info about fantasy armor in medieval art!)
Really wish the boob armor had some morphs, though, to make it less boobular, or at least look less braless.
That said... I'm not super loving the quality of the textures on any of these. I was hoping for some nice shaders or something, or at least multiple material zones, but no dice. And the chainmail texture a) doesn't seem to be a normal mail weave and b) has no opacity map?!
The lack of codpieces is annoying, but understandable-- after all, lots of armor on display in museums is missing the codpiece and just has a drape of fabric. But on the other hand, weren't the creators bothered by the lack of protection in that area? Knight Series 04 doesn't even get a fauld, or mail.
Anyway, if someone models codpieces for these, I'd be interested. Will trade not-very-fancy texture mods for them, if I make any!
My first render of Knight Series 02 is attached; the plate elements are the base texture combined with these shaders.
Well, the 'free bonus' dropped - a set of 35 knight-themed poses for gen8 M. What do we reckon?
It does make sense the poses are for male, since 4 of the 5 items are, and 35 is a pretty big amount compared to normal pose packs. They're pretty good individually, too.
On the other side, the pack itself is only $9 (as a base price, cheaper with 20/30% offs), and I guess poses can be slightly less exciting than what I was expecting; a sword or little vingette stand, or some horse amour or a squire outfit or something like that.
There's also something kinda funny about the pose set being titled after the Western knight sets, which weren't even part of the promo set (I think they were in Jazz and Jaqueline 8.1?)
Interested to hear other poeple's thoughts

This latest one looks really good!
The texture of the cloak is a little odd, and I wish the armour had a codpiece. But those are relatively minor gripes.
I love how ornate it is, I think this is the only armour of the series I'm gonna get!
Would love to see renders without the helmet, and without the fur/cape.
Does the cape have morphs/bones in addition to dForce?
I assume the fur is polygonal and not strand-based?
I'm nort sure that this is the bonus, since we can't yet have purchased all six products.
I just keep looking at the King's Armor and thinking "Someone in the royal armory doesn't like the king very much."
There's no protection whatsoever around the crotch/upper thigh area. First fight he gets into, the king's going to get stabbed in the femoral artery and bleed out in seconds.
If he escapes that fate, he may end up taking painful damage in another part of the unprotected area. One way or another, the royal line ends with him.
OH WHOOPS. I could swear the lil' pic looked filled up :0
Well in that case, it's a pretty sweet bonus then!
The armor has too many crosses to be useful for me i am afraid. I tend to render elves, and fantasy creatures, and making an armor too specific to a particular religion limits its usefulness. I had the same issue with the paladin armor.
Probably my favorite from the series so far!
Ummm, the poses reference an item not included in the series so far. I wonder if that is the mystery "Add-On," we get.
Imo, they all look like DnD painted minis.
The poses reference the Western Knight, not the current series, and the shield seems to be this one https://www.daz3d.com/the-western-knight-series-01-for-genesis-8-males
Just got the 05. It is a nice one (design wise) but I'm kind of disappointed in one thing:
The pants is glued to the whole body armour, meaning it is attached together with the breastplate. What's worse, there is NOT A SINGLE material zone for the whole body armour so it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to make any adjustments. Do not like the colour of the pants? Sorry, there is no easy way to use a shader on the pants only as the body armour and the pants ARE BLOODY MELT TOGETHER!
Individual material zones for full body suits like these are really much needed and I have no idea why Daz (especially the department overlooking the quality of products) missed it (or they did notice it but just did not care).
I was thinking the same. Also, what are his trousers supposed to be made of?
Has anyone rendered the new armor without the dead chickens draped across his shoulders? I would like to see what the armor looks like without the cloak.
Yikes, that's not good.
Oh, btw, there is no shirt underneath the armour, neither. The cloth is sitched with the metal altogether and there is NO SIMPLE WAY to change the color of the shirt, just like the pants, as they are all parts of the SINGLE "KA Body" material zone.
My thoughts exactly. The chief reason why I passed.
