Her video seems so much more comprehensive to me...moreso than his "well they had codpieces for aesthetics, so if medieval women weren't needed as kitchen wenches and actually wore armor, I'm sure it would have been made for boobies." She gives reasons (good reasons) why boob plate would/would not work for practicality's sake, especially when it comes to having to actually hold a weapon without metal jubblies getting in the way...while he's more like "well armor is METAL...duh...OF COURSE boobies would still hold up under a blow!" without much consideration for the bones that still have to absorb the force of such a blow beneath or the fact that there were weapons designed to pierce armor and/or unseat mounted riders. As explained (in the better video), having boobies just adds one more catch point.
Well, since she carries a pair, one would naturally expect her to know a thing or two more than the men about the issue.
I like this latest female armor. I thought the male armor made him look fat in the pictures. I'm glad the female armor doesnt do that.
I buy quite a lot of armor. I have more use for sexy armor than full coverage armor, so usually just buy that. But this looks very well made so I will probably eventually get it.
Also from its description, I like that it is seperated into pieces so its possble to just use certain parts.
Regarding peoples complaints about boobplate - Look up fencing chest guards on sites like amazon - you will find they do have boobs for women.
They are mostly single piece nowadays, but that wasnt always the case. I used to do fencing many years ago (we were very lucky and had an olympic fencing instructor). While the men just wore a fencing jacket, glove and helmet. The women in the class also wore seperate domes on their boobs under the fencing jacket. Them being seperate removes the danger of pressure to the sternam as they didnt even reach the sternam, and so allowed them to be larger boobed than is possible with the single piece protectors.
Me personally, I'm not all that concerned with the real world mechanics of how a boob plate would or wouldn't work in battle.
For me it's all about the (much more subjective) question of whether something looks "believable" or "silly".
To my eyes the chest area of this new armour just doesn't look good. It's really too bad, because otherwise it really is quite a nice outfit.
(Boob armor 4 above was the video I was thinking of. She explains how armor works, and why you don't want boob armor.)
Pre-medieval armor didn't have a lot of protection. Generally covering the torso, with bronze plate, a shield, and leather strips around the legs to deflect a sword blow. The emphasis was on mobility. Also.. no boob armor.
It is often misunderstood that cloth and chain absorb and block arrows. It was the Kevlar vest of the day. You'll have a nasty bruise, and possibly broken bones (which will slow you down), but you will not be killed by the arrow strike. It was possible to get through it, but that was more about a getting lucky strike or damaging the armor enough to reduce protection. You'd be better served trying to hit an unprotected location.
Medieval combat was an arms race between weapons, and armor. It went from Bow to Long Bow to Crossbow. You see a similar increase in armor to match. Castles went through similar changes, from straight flat walls to defend against a seige to rounded walls to deflect seige weapons. (I decided to see my family castle in Aberdeen, it was the first to have gun ports in the walls.)
Maintenance of armor was also incredibly expensive. Early crusaders (actually, mostly peasants with few fighting men) used chain more like ring mail which was cheaper and easier to maintain. By the late crusades, a chain shirt would cost the equivalent of a new house today. Steel was not cheap.
1 - The new armor stretches horrifically with every movement.
2 - Fluting and ribbing on the geometry only makes it more visible.
I shouldn't be this nitpicky, but I own both the the Assyrian armor from Daz and the Royal Scythian one from Rendo and they both keep shape unless the characters are extremely morphed. In spite of having individual scales modeled (!)
Going from longbow to crossbow wasn't really an improvement in power, but in ease of use. Anyone, with a few days of training, can be competent with a crossbow. Meanwhile, the proverb for the longbow was "if you want to train a bowman, start with his grandfather."
Honestly the armor looks bad. Especially when you see what others have created in the past that DOESNT look like a foam suit and is far more intricate. Im guessing that this quest gimmick is a way to sell items that normally would do poorly. I would LOVE more Luthbell armors or even layer sets of armors that make them more interchangeable.
Hmmm ... it is friday again, but there does not appear to be a new armor today. Is there one this week?
They are still asleep at DAZland
I was looking forward to more knight-fantasy content today.
no knight or are astronaut suits sufficiently armoured to be considered a variant on the theme?
There we go: https://www.daz3d.com/the-knight-series-03-for-genesis-8-males
So, now it’s only a 44% discount? Is this the new DAZ product discount? Now, I’m wondering if this promotion is only to cajole us to get used to their new pricing scheme. I might add last week’s had the usual DAZ discount, so what gives? Holding off to see if the price is a mistake.
J
The sale page explicitly states 20% discount on today's new releases, so it's most probably not a mistake.
Some days have had 20% intro, some 30% - today is a 20% day.
So today is a no-buy-day.
Which as the items are DOs impacts on the PC club discount.
No it dosen't, the PC discount is the same. The total discount is affected in exactly the same way as the discount for non-DOs.
Yes it does, new DO releases got a 50% discount for PC members, now due to reduced discounts that noone as yet has given any official statement about, reduces the discount PC menbers get, it has an impact however you look at it.
I like the the new set. I really wish it had better textures and it is super thick. That much thick metal is going to be super heavy to wear.
I am not buying as much as usual these days. Prices are high, and quality is not improving.
PC members still get an extra 30% off DO compared to non-members. That is what the membership promises you and that has not changed.
Did I mention anything about PC changes I said it had an impact on the Price for PC members which it does, by introducing such a reduced discount on DOs it in turn makes them mire expensive.
You said it changed the PC discount, which usually refers to the extra 30% off DO. That's why Richard said PC discount is still the same.
And yes, reduced intro discount impacts all customers, including PC members.
As usual you decided to read my post in such a way that suited your agenda.
As much as I don't like 20% off or the climbing base prices, I feel the need to nitpick.
To be fair, it DOES impact the size of the PC club discount. It makes it larger.
On a $10 dollar item, that's 30% off as a new release, the member discount is 30% of the remaining 70%, or 21% - $2.10
On the same 10 dollar item that's 20% off as a new release, the PC club discount is 30% off of the remaining 80%, or 24% - $2.40.
You're still paying more, but technically the Daz+ discount has grown, both as a share of the total purchase price and as as a dollar amount.
Edit to actually be on topic: Anyone bought armor 3? Have thoughts on its quality? I'm sure it's not great, but I can't help hoping. It's very different from some of the other armors I have, so it might offer some variety to my library.
I had been planning on picking up the entire series, but I just don't like the way this one looks, or the way it bends around the waist and thighs. I also resent having to pay an extra buck and change for it.
I definitely like 03 compared to the first armor set. It does look like there's some weird bending near the thigh in the promos. Like the metal is conforming to the shape of the leg when it bends. I wouldn't think metal armor would be quite that flexable. :P
Not terribly excited for it so far. I use a fair a mount of armor, but I have two very important qualifiers: reasonbly functional/practical and aesthetically pleasing. A slightly less important factor is armor for males and females that is exactly the same (meaning having similar/the same textures and design, w/ the exception of obvious physical differences). That is to say, I could have both males and females look like they are guards working in the same castle. I love the look of the male and female Orleans armor, but the female version has the vulnerable stomach exposed, so I have to kitbash to try to make it match. Sickleyield's historical armor for G8M & G8F matches, but I don't particularly like the style.
So far, both male options (1 & 3) are boring, and while the female option is pretty neat...it doesn't (yet?) have a male equivalent, and I have other armor, so I'm passing on them all for now.
Luthbell/Luthbellina's always a solid bet for armor: intricate and reasonably believable from a functional standpoint. Maybe an expert could say why it's not feasible, but I personally love it.
