Discontinued products?

Just curious, why do some products dissapear from the DAZ Shop?

I have this Gothic City product from Ant Farm in my library, but it's no longer listed in the shop. Comes up with "page not found".

I can't speak to that specific product, but some of the common reasons are:

    1. The product was purchased by Daz and will be re-released soon as a Daz original
    2. The product was temporarily taken down for some technical problem
    3. The product violated copyright/trademark in some way
    4. The product was aged out of the store by Daz
    5. The creator decided to retire the product themselves
    6. The creator has left the Daz store entirely

But it's always part of your product installs if you purchased it?

Yes, but the since the product page is gone, then you have lost the promo pics and description that would remind you of what the product did or looked like.

    Yeah, that is oftentimes helpful.

But at least there is the Smart Content tab to find it.

Do a search on google images...type in Daz3d and then product name, you might get images that way, I've had success many times doing that

This is why I download the images when I download a product.

Really? I would need a whole other HD just for that, LOL

It's funny how everyone has their own rituals/ways of dealing with content. I have never used/will use smart content and always use the content library. I always load a product after i get it to see how it works and explore what options it has for future use.

I've never even opened the smart content pane, lol. No interest in it. I prefer my content library. I can personally find things a lot easier in the content library. Must be all the years of using Poser.

So do I, but I suspect most people do not.

I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't install everything I own.

I only install what I need, when I need it and if I don't use it for a long time I remove it.

I download all my content and categorize and store it in a manner that makes sense to me... I can usually find something once I've stored it... if I install it, it's hit or miss if I'll find what I'm looking for... because I include the product's promo images, it's usually easier to understand what I'm looking at, if I forget the name or vendor... most thumbnails are only vaguely useful to me.

Your not alone. I only have about 1/3 of my library installed. If it's something I'll use on a regular bases I'll go ahead and install it and the rest of the stuff if it's dedicated for a certain project it don't get installed until then. I install with DIM of course so every product I own is downloaded so that I have all of the zips backed up and everything is just sitting in ready to install. I use to do a log of everything I buy and what for but when I was out for a while for medical reasons I gave it up for some reason.

The next time I get a rendering computer, I might take the route of only loading what I use ... A) it is getting to be an unwieldly amount B) with generation 8 and 8.1  the slowdown is too great with all the morphs loaded.

I always wondered why some of my stuff had images missing.  That makes a lot of sense.

I do the same.  When I first started using Daz, I installed EVERYTHING since I never knew when I'd need something.  But that's several hundred gigs of assets.  My SSD only has so much space so yeah, gotta prioritize what gets installed.
