DSX, ZIP Files
What are the DSX file in the Dowloads folder of DIM?
I am about to clear out this directory to save space, but reading through the forums there is a warning not to delete the ManifestFiles files.
Do I just delete both of these files to get rid of the download package?
example:
| IM00015277-02_MECH2012EnforcerDS.dsx | ||
| IM00015277-02_MECH2012EnforcerDS.zip |
The ManifestFiles directory C:/Users/Public/Documents/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/ManifestFiles also has a DSX file for each product installed. Is it just these files that I need to avoid deleting? Or do I need to keep the DSX files in the Downloads folder too, and just delete the ZIP files only?
Sorry I maybe have explained this not too well.

Depends where you set up that up in DIM.
In general though, DON'T delete the dsx files as that's DAZ's way of knowing it's d/l'ed the product & successfully installed it.
The ZIP files can be deleted. DS doesn't know. If you delete the dsx as well, then DIM will add it to the To Ready to be Downloaded column is all.
Thank you! I will just delete the ZIP files only.
Earth can't be flat otherwise cats would have pushed everything off the edge!
Love this!
Not quite.
The dsx file is your order manifest - it includes the order number and order date, among other things. The zip file contains a product manifest, with all the files in the zip and other product related data. When you install the product with DIM these two manifest files are combined and the install date, the install root path, and the installer get added - this I call the installation manifest and it gets stored in C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\ManifestFiles. This is the file DIM uses to determine what has been installed.
If you truly want to clean up your download directory I'd suggest using DIM - select the files you want gone (by product, on the "installed" tab, right-click on one of them, and select "delete packages - > all selected".
Correct - there are two different types/sets of .dsx files and with the same file names, which can be confusing.
Thank you. This worked!
With the product shown above (MECH2012Enforcer) I asked DIM to remove the package from the Installed tab (right-click).
It removed both files from the Downloads directory (zip, dsx) and left the dsx file in the Manifest directory.
I checked the Installed tab and the MECH2012Enforcer product is still installed too, which is perfect!
So I really feel comfortable doing it this way and allowing DIM to decide what to delete.
And for good measure, I also did a render with the Enforcer and it did just fine from DAZ Studio... so I feel confident now deleting all the packages this way.
Time for lunch! (see attached)

I've always kept all my downloaded ZIP files from anybody, ever. When you've watched the world in detail for 60 years you notice patterns, the young'ns don't. I've learned to not trust a company to live longer than me. So far, there are just a few, like GE and ATT, that are ahead of me. But paraphrasing a line from the 1939 "Wizard of Oz" summarizes the fate of most companies... "My! Companies come and go so quickly here!"
I know what you mean. But as long as you backup the DIM directories I am guessing that you have the installs. You are only deleting the download packages.
If you make a mistake though, and if the company goes out of business, then yes, I guess you could wind up loosing stuff and not being able to re-download.
But why would a company as advanced as DAZ3D just go out of business without anyone else buying the assets? DAZ3D products are used by movie studios and in game creation. A lot of companies rely on DAZ assets. So I seriously doubt that DAZ Studio would just shut down and disappear.
Have you ever heard of Nokia phones?
LOL. Yes! And Blackberry too.
