It's driving me nuts. The music behind this Exxon Mobil commercial is delightful and resonates with me as if I've heard it somewhere else.

Yeah, I know, grumps are not supposed to be happy and like things* but this music cracked my shell a bit. Anybody know where the music came from?

* Actually I like many many things, it's just more fun to grump than squeal in delight! 8-Q

Edited to add:
I thought it might be from the soundtrack of the movie "Hugo". So I checked it out on YouTube. Music seems similar..., but no cigar.

Edited again:
Oops, found it, right there in the comments on the link I posted. "Once Upon A December" from Anastasia
Now to go check it out.

Edited yet again:
Nope, not from "Anastasia". :-( Some songs in the "Hugo" soundtrack still seems more similar.

Thanks, but um..., still no cigar. That link takes you to "The Moldau" by Smetana. A beautiful piece in its own right, and one of my favorites, but not the same.

Yeah, it's similar, it may have been the inspiration but it's not the same song, even if you used the same instruments. No cigar.

I had a similar experience with a commercial several years ago for diamonds that used this song:

well it could simply be a different orchestra, different conductor I have 3 versions of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in Dm which are so different in arrangement, style and tempo they sound like 3 different songs.

It could also be an original work owned by Exxon Mobile.

Original works are often created by artists with similar works either published separately or as contracts with various companies. A year or so ago there were a series of slightly different Christmas commercials that were used by different companies but created by a the same artists. The style was unmistakable.

I'd love to find this Exxon tune as a standalone. If not already available, it's good enough to become one.

This sounds like '' Two Steps From Hell''. They're making Trailer Music. I couldn't find this one, but they have hundreds
    of songs on Youtube.

Yeah, that was my first guess... It sounds very much like Two Steps, but sometimes it is hard to find out if a piece is theirs or not... They seem to have a lot of work that is not directly credited to them.
The body of their work is great to listen to when you are doing creative work.

and "Come Back to Jamaica" from the Jamaican Board of Tourism sounded suspiciously like John Lennon's "And so this is Christmas."

Did you ever convince youtube that your work was original and not lifted from a game?

I believe the basis of the Exon music for their algae commercial is "Oh Suzanna", redone in a twany guitar instrumental.  Thought it was very good.....Kind of reminded me of the clip in the movie "Platoon" towards the beginning that also used this song - but just the lyrics

I don't know who did the version on the Exxon Mobil commerical. But it is from Bugs Bunny "A Hunting we will go"
