dforce multi dress system - problem with shaders

Hi, I'm relatively new and I'm having problems with applying the shaders. I have "dforce multi dress system" selected in the scene tab and shaders tab. When I select the shader in the Materials tab, or the shaders tab it does not apply. I looks like it's doing something, but nothing changes. I can change the neck line, but not the color of the dress. I picked the dress from the ones offered thinking I could change the color with the shaders. I'm using Gen8, Jazz. I've attached a file, I'm trying to change the color of the dress to black. Can someone please help?

    Some shaders need to have the surfaces selected in the surface tab, so select the dress in the viewport/scene tab open the surfaces tab and make sure you have the surfaces you want the shader applied to selected in that tab then apply them.

    I must have been doing something wrong. I went through the process today and now they're working!  Thanks!

    I'm also having problems with multidress system. When I apply a shader, the cut-outs are giving me trouble. The dress doesn't look like it's supposed to. Is there anyway I can do to fix this?
