cool article, thanks!
Thats interesting... I usually like stuff that is more like Last Exile, Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Mushi-Shi type stories... so those mostly lean towards a more 90s look... but occasionally someone will suggest something that is new on Netflix and even if its okay, I have a huge with the missing noses... Where have all the noses gone?
Have noses fallen out of popularity in Japan? I get that a big nose is distracting, but did people have to do away with even that vestigial little "L"?
What I really would love to know is the origins of the "fountain crying" and the bits where when someone is emotionally strained (happy, mad or embarrassed) they change into a super-simplifled cartoon version of themselves. I always thought I was the only one who thought that was odd, but at least Fooly Cooly (FLCL) poked fun at that (as well as lots of other traditional anime/manga things).
