Even Elon Musk thinks cryptocurrency is bad for the environment.

It's interesting news, but something about that smells weird.

Companies pretty much always play both sides in everything. They'll support one side up front with public statements, and then support the other with deals, donations and everything else.

Even that statement is pretty non decisive "these coins are the best AND worst thing ever, but we support them, but not right now, but we love you all and everyone is our best friend".

I'm not sure the "good enviromental" angle will ever appear on an electricity based currency system that uses masses of computing to do something redundant we already have with more features. Even if it gets to 1/1000th of the power, thats still wasted energy doing something completely redundant.

More speculation on why Musk made that tweet regarding bitcoin since he and his company only recently invested 1.5 billion in bitcoin (and thereby wiped out any environmental "good" his cars ever did).

I'm supposed to believe someone who owns property in LA would pay me thousands of dollars for a certificate of authenticity on the same artwork they wouldn't commission? That Extremely Online rich people are just super in love with art and supporting small artists after "lmao, porn commissions to scrape by on rent" has been part of internet culture for over a decade? Sure.

Yeah, if they just wanted to support artists with large amounts of money, there's lots of starving artists out there, and they're not hard to find. Having custom work commissioned should logically be more prestigious than owning a link to a piece anyway, but if they don't want custom work there are lots of Patreons, Ko-Fi's and PayPal donation buttons spread throughout the internet. And yet, despite the difficulties with eking out a living when it's so easy and convenient to financially support artists, they're supposed to trust NFTs (and their higher buy-in cost!) to finally grant them long term economic sustainability or even wealth.

I am glad that DAZ cured me from spending so much money here. Soon I can afford to buy something of "real value" again that is not a total Q&A disaster.

I know BlenderMarket has appreciated Daz's help encouraging me to shop there in these trying times.

Since this has suddenly taken a detour into speculative digs at others, and since the substantive arguments have been pretty thoroughly stated and examined already, the thread has been locked.
