2070(M) vs 3060(M). Any opinions?

So I want to get a new laptop and I'm trying to decide which would be better for renders. The 8gb 2070, or the 6gb 3060?

Is RAM still king or does the newer tech win out for render speeds and sizes? Can I render bigger more complex things on a 3060 vs a 2070?

What it the general consensus here?

VRAM may not be king, but once you run out of it, the rest doesn't matter because you'll drop to CPU fallback anyway.

    1.VRAM

    2. CUDA Cores

    3. RTX/Tensor cores

It's like choosing between the 4door BMW or the Corvette. The vettes faster and more fun.But you can haul more fun stuff in the bmw.

VRAM is still the primary factor. This is part of the reason the 12 GB desktop 3060 is generally considered superior for Iray than the 3060 Ti, 3070 and some would even say the 3080, because of Nvidia's weird upside down VRAM distribution.

I would say that's all the more true the further you get below 8GB. The 2070 may be slightly slower, but it's going to be the better GPU here.

6GB's of VRAM on W10 is not much.

I did some testing for memory usage for an other thread and you can see the results attached, but I'm using W7 and the base load with W10 is 800MB's larger I'm told.
I'm using a RTX 2070 Super that has 8GB's of VRAM.

The G8 characters, clothing, hair and scene I used were "lightweight"

This is what I was thinking... just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something. 12gb on a 3060... Pretty awesome! I might have to upgrade my desktop 2070!

But there isn't a 6GB 3060 is there. Your choice is a slower 12GB 3060 or the faster 8GB 3060TI. You still want either one of those over the 2070.

I've looked at that situations and there is not doubt you want the 3060. If you must, learn to composite, but you want the 3060.

As stated, this is for a laptop, and the mobile version of the 3060 is 6 GB

Doesn't change that they should be getting a 3060 rather than a 2070. The only reason why they should get a 2070 is lack of availability for the forseeable future (6+ months of the 3060s in laptops) or the 2070 laptop was more than $500 cheaper.
