Help! Copper Twinklefoot broke my Genesis 8 Male! (Solved)

Has anyone else had trouble with Copper Twinklefoot for Genesis 8 Male and Drutherson 8?  I just bought him last night, but when I installed him, there was a major problem.  Now, whenever I load any Genesis 8 Male figure, including the base figure, almost none of my Smart Content is available.  I tried uninstalling (I installed using DIM), but even after that, Genesis 8 Male still doesn't have Smart Content, and it loads as Copper Twinklefoot as the name.  How is that still happening if I uninstalled him through DIM?

I've tried rebooting my computer, but that didn't help anything.  I'm using Daz Studio 4.12 on a Mac running Mojave.  I do NOT have Drutherson 8, but since it says he's for Genesis 8 Male as well, I didn't think that would matter.  And just in case it matters, my internet MIGHT have gone down for a second while Copper was installing, but shouldn't uninstalling him fix that?

I included some screenshots.  One of How the Smart Content SHOULD look, by showing how it looks for Genesis 8 Female, one showing Genesis 8 Male with hardly any Smart Content, and one showing that he's named Copper even though Copper isn't installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    How did you install? I installed via DIM and don't have this problem.

    I just installed him through DIM and it broke my smart content as well. But reinstalling G8M starter essentials fixed that.

    Also, if you're thinking of buying it, I want to point out that his face is significantly lighter than his body. Just noticed that now in the viewport. It's a shame because I really like the details of the skin otherwise. Oh well. I guess I will keep him for the morph. His face is pretty unique.

    Ok, got it working, thank you everyone!  What did the trick was uninstalling and then reinstalling the Genesis 8 Male Starter Essentials.

    I must say, he doesn't look to me quite like he does in the promos, but he has an interesting head morph, so I'll hang on to him for mixing.

    Thank you all for your help!

    Got him myself yesterday, and taking these troubles as fair warning, I looked for the source of the problem before installing. In short (no pun intended) the character gets defined as a CompatibilityBase, and that replaces the Genesis 8 Male, so it takes over the compatibilities of every base 8 male. There is no need to define any morphed character as a ComptibilityBase, that is reserved for assets with real geometry, like Copper's eyebrows.

    Reinstalling the Genesis 8 Male Essentials will redefine the alias for Genesis 8 Male CompatibilityBase, but the danger still lurks that if you reinstall or re-import the metadata for Copper Twinklefoot, you will get the same problem again. To permanently correct the problem, there are 4 lines to remove from the metadata support file in the Runtime/Support folder (DAZ_3D_79941_Copper_Twinklefoot_for_Genesis_8_Male_and_Drutherson_8.dsx). It's just text, so any edtor will do.

    The first Asset is "People/Genesis 8 Male/Characters/Copper Twinklefoot with Drutherson 8.duf". A few lines down is
    <CompatibilityBase VALUE="/Copper Twinklefoot for Genesis 8 Male and Drutherson 8/Copper Twinklefoot"/>

    Delete that line. The second Asset is "People/Genesis 8 Male/Characters/Copper Twinklefoot.duf". A few lines down from that is (same string)
    <CompatibilityBase VALUE="/Copper Twinklefoot for Genesis 8 Male and Drutherson 8/Copper Twinklefoot"/>

    Delete that line, too. Now, down at the very end of the file, there are two identical lines:
    <ObjectCompatibility VALUE="/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Male/Genesis8Male.dsf#Genesis8Male" REF="/Copper Twinklefoot for Genesis 8 Male and Drutherson 8/Copper Twinklefoot"/>

    Delete them both. Save and copy the file either to a safe place and replace the one in the product package so that you can reinstall without any fuss later. Leaving the metadata file in the support folder is perfectly fine, but it could get overwritten by the one in the .zip file if you re-install the original and make a mess of things again. If and when an update arrives, it will replace the package and the modified metadata. If it is done properly, end of story. If not, you've got a backup.

    I am not certain that re-importing the metadata will correct any misinformation that is present in the database, or if the product needs to be re-installed, but if re-installing the Genesis 8 Male Starter Essentials is enough to clear the problem, re-importing the metadata should be good enough.

    For the sticklers among us, there will be (if you've already installed it) a CompatibilityBase called "Copper Twinklefoot for Genesis 8 Male and Drutherson 8" with Sub-compatibility base "Copper Twinklefoot" whch you might want to remove from the list since it serves no purpose and might lead to some confusion (but keep the Eyebrows!). I don't know what is the best way to do it, but it can be accessed from the Edit menu of the Scene Tab, where you can set Scene Identification. Look for the Compatibility Base drop-down. Click the ellipsis at the right, and you will be presented with a dialog with all available Compatibility Bases. You can also get to it from the Content DB editor by selecting any item in the top list, and go to Compatibility in the bottom half. Right-click and select Add Compatibility, and you will get the same Compatibility Bases dialog. (It doesn't matter what you have loaded, nothing for the assets will be changed, it is just a way to get at the base list).

    Navigate to the "Copper Twinklefoot for Genesis 8 Male and Drutherson 8" entry and expand the list. Right-click on the "Copper Twinklefoot" entry and select Delete Compatibility Base. Depending on how many products you have, the list could take a long time to regenerate, so do it when you have something else to do. When it returns, just cancel out and carry on...

     I need a drink...

  • I want to purchase him!!  He is just a very beautiful character.  Have the issues been fixed in new downloads or will I have to modify the coding?  I certainly don't mind, however I have never done it with a DS figure...only Poser stuff.

    I still see the original release date on the current package, so I would guess: NO, it has not been corrected. If you modify the metadata file before installing, you will save yourself a load of trouble. This problem was noticed shortly after release. Were any tickets written?

  • Thank you so much!  I manually install all of my products.  I will try to modigy the metadata first.  I will google that!!

    Given that DAZ was/is a bit lazy on updating the release notes, it is hard to say if the issue is fixed or not. The only ones that can answer the question are peiople that got the asset.

    I meant my package in DIM, it is still the original release. I am all too familiar with the hit-or-miss status of the readme pages.

    Thank you for this. The file has not been corrected, so this post helped me fix it. Very obnoxious problem that should have been caught by QA pretty easily.
