IGES Import
in The Commons
Hi,
i would like to import 3D data in IGES format, in oder to user certain CAD software. According to the daz documentation it should be possible. However in the import function in version 4.15 I cannot select files with IGS extension. Is the documentation wrong or is there a trick.
Greetings... Zapp

Can you please point out where you see it in the docs?
One thing that occured to me - DS does use IES profiles for lights, was that perhaps what you saw?
Are you getting confused with the docs for Carrara? They are part of the Daz Documentation Center too.
It's Carrara that can import IGES, not Daz Studio (as far as I know). These are the Carrara docs:
http://wiki.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/software/carrara/06_six/06_import_export
Maybe you should move your thread over to the Carrara forum,

this is how to move a thread
As you're seeing, DAZ is pretty limitied on what it will import, and IGES isn't one of the options.
Here's a bit more (OK, a lot more) info, but this is from the recognized authority on digital format conversion.

Thanks for the response. You are right, my google search lead me to a page on the daz wiki but actually a page about Carrara.
Found a solution: install FreeCAD. This offeres a IGES import. And can directly export to DAE. Use the export setting "Mefisto" seems to bring good results. I used a test model so far...
