Splitting up the environment and props

So is this the new normal now having the environment (like a house) having props that need to be purchased separately? I know it's been done before but it seems like the trend is moving towards this being the new normal. I can understand why some may want the props only, but it's making the bundle of both pricier.

I think if you had a single product, you're still looking at a $40 price tag... that's a very fair price IMHO for the scale and quality of it.  This approach, however, if you just want the props, you only pay for that part.

Given how detailed and ridiculously fantastic the product released today is, I'd say it's just fine. If you were to add the cost of both together, you're still within the range of where the set should be. The benefit, too, is that the props can be marketed to someone who might not otherwise want the hobbit-style home...but dayum do I want it!

I agree that the ROG products are awesome and I do have a lot of them. My comment was more of a general observation of the releases lately and how they've been packaged. I do see the value for those only wanting the props or environment, but I do feel like the prices are creeping higher. But I'm buying in CAD, so we're always at a disadvantage :)

Honestly, I'd happily have paid a 40 dollar price tag for this because it looks stellar, but when I'm looking at it and seeing I have to buy two items to get everything, mentally I just don't want to do it. Sure it's not that difficult in the digital era to click two buttons, but I feel like it's being milked for every penny if it's split up as opposed to just charging us what you want for the whole thing together. And I totally understand that some folks might just want the props, and you're not going to please everyone with everything and every decision, but I would have instantly bought this if it was all together and getting me to click buy twice is not something that I'm going to do.

Do bear in mind that the messy Apartment, which was split on release into room and some props plus a second set with more props, was intefgrated into one product (and refunds issued for the props set).

Your choice I guess..? if this isn't worth two clicks I'm not sure what is :)

    @benniewoodell , @evacyn

Bear in mind that the Rooms are going to be modular. Also the furniture work find in the existing Fantasy Bedroom to change that into a different room. Similarly one could replace various pieces in the Tavern with living room furniture and create different scenes that way. It allows users to have options and to split the cost into two "installments" if needed.

I think this particular vendor should be charging more for their products, if they will be this high quality.

    Other vendors, not so much.

Since a lot of the deals recently (including today's) have required you to buy 2 or more new releases in order to trigger some additional benefit, then it can be considered to be an advantage to have the products split into 2 pieces.

  • you do qualify for better deals on selected items and participating Artists by buying 2 new releases if you want them so there is that, I barely could afford the set because I should be saving for a fridge but been looking forward to it for months. I don't think splitting it changed the price but could have help me budget better leaving some for later. I couldn't resist though.

  • Personally i think splitting the assets is a good idea providing the combined total is comparable to similar products.

however i think you could sell this particular product anyway you choose... it looks that good! (fingers crossed Daz will do it justice)

I usually only buy the rooms for the props anyway, so this is an interesting turn.

Just saw this post by chance.

The main reason we decided to split the products was that I wanted to only have a few rooms of different sizes, but still be able to have lots of different themes for each of them without forcing people to buy larger products with furniture they may not want, just to get the room architecture.

As far as architecture goes, the goal is to maybe have 2 large and 2 small rooms (hallways, several different entrances and a kitchen aside (and bathroom?))
And as far as furniture sets goes... Roguey's imagination and motivation is the limit, so far we have most props for a bedroom, adventurer (trophies, maps, relics), herbalist, tinkerer, library/study.

Right now you only have 1 large room and a furniture set for a Living Room.

Once we do a small room, we'll update the Living Room furniture product with scene Subset that will also decorate the small room as a small cozy living room.
When we do another large or small room, the Living Room furniture product will be updated again to include scene subsets that also decorate those rooms into unique looking Living rooms.

So if you maybe don't like this first room's architecture, you can skip it and get the next one, and the included scene subset will decorate it with a click, just like this one.
Any new Fantasy home room you purchase, if feaseble, will have a scene subset to utilize the Living Room furniture (or we'll update the Living Room furniture product with the scene, whichever makes more sense).

Then once we do a Bedroom furniture set, it will have scene subsets for any rooms released to date, with scene subsets added as new rooms are released. So you'll be able to have different looking bedrooms of different sizes reusing the same furniture, and the same thing with all other themed furniture sets.

Since the House is modular, that will allow you to reuse any room architecture of any size as a different room (Living Room, study, Master bedroom, guest or kids bedroom etc).
Same with entrances. We'll try to do several entrances that will be decorated with the same props.

This sort of flexibility was something I have been eyeing for a while. We wanted to do some Game of Throne'ish office/study set a while back for the Medieval Bedroom, but dropped it because it seemed silly to make people purchase the whole bedroom just to have the architecture for the new study furniture.
It also seemed unfair to do a new similar room architecturally to put the furniture in and charge people for it, when the bedroom architecture would have done the job just fine.

In the end, I'm hoping that splitting the rooms and furniture will be of advantage for everyone, even if right now it doesn't seem so, having only 1 room and 1 furniture set to choose from.
