I really do not understand the problem here, as you can see the creatures clearly in the preview images provided.

The problem is that 99% of HDRI creators do not include figures in their HDRIs but use them in the promos to show them off, this set is different so an assumption was made that this set was the same. This was pointed out by the OP as a warning to those of us who made that assumption.

The other set referenced in this thread by the same creator, Nebula 360, clearly has a space station in all the previews of the HDRIs which lead me to believe that the space station was part of the HDRI. Phoenix1966 has confirmed above this is not the case. What are we to assume the HDRIs actually look like prior to purchase with this inconsistancy?

Well, it does say this it the description: "Some with sand creatures in the background, some with sand storms..."

Your point is valid nonetheless. I would have expected the PA to create the product with options for both those who want to make Dune stuff, and for those who don't.

The thing is, even if we wanted the creatures to be a part of the scene, there's still no logic to what the PA has done by including them in this way. After all, they're going to be fixed in the same pose, in the same place. For a writer of stories such as myself, this woulD again make the scenes unusable.  Saying that, if you're a single render creator, these would work out fine I guess!

We are not in disagreement here at all.

I am just trying to look at it from a different perspective. The problem is not in the PA not telling us it is the case. For me the problem is the creatures being there at all, because they cannot be switched off.

Maybe we should just ask nicely the creator.

Midnight Stories, could you please remake https://www.daz3d.com/desert-planet-360 without creatures added to panoramas.

Wayne is updating this product to remove the baked in creatures and will also add a few more bonus HDRI's

If I understand you correctly, Wayne is the name of the PA we know as midnight_stories. In that case, this is wonderful news. I am grateful for the PA reacting to our comments so quickly (and reacting at all) and I am adding the product to my cart again.

Thank you for the heads-up, and, please, pass my thanks to the PA.

As watchdog79 said above, thanks for the post and for the attention to the feedback, a lot of goodwill earned from this customer :)

    >OK this may not be the right place to post, but it relates to DAZ artist. I have been getting some criticism in the common at DAZ, https://www.daz3d.com/.../discus.../458996/desert-planet-360 I would have replied there if I could, but I no longer have access to the daz forum any more, so I'm posting here. If people want to repost in the forum there, feel free. The main issue people are having is I put creatures in the background and are claiming I have made a huge blunder. So I will just say why I have put them in, in all honestly I did not expect the sand creatures to be accepted by DAZ and this was the only way I had a chance to get the sand worm into the environment and this was a critical element to this release with the desert suits. But to my happy surprise daz accept everything into the store so thank you daz. I did not hide the fact they were in there, and if you have a look at the 360 promo at the bottom I give everyone a full view of what they are getting. Can I take them out "yes" to 90% as they are on layers that can be turned off, weather daz would agree to it I'm not sure, it would change the original product and some people may have bought it because of the creatures in the BG. I guess if enough people want it changed them I could figure something out. I hope this explains the reason why they are in there, and they are not a mistake by me, that was my choice as I thought the sand creatures won't make it in. To the people who don't like me, you're entitled to your opinion just like me. I'd like to thank everyone who supported these products, it's been a great success.

Later, in response to comments that he might have produced versions with/without the creatures, he said:

I'm working on the updates now, plus I'll add in some bonus ones that didn't make the cut. Please pass on Thanks

So it looks like the end result of all this might be an even better product.

That is really a good news. Thanks for letting me know. All the best for him.

This is an ongoing pet peeve. PAs put their names on products with no options to remove along with similar situations. Why on earth would we want static creatures in a scene? Give us options! Otherwise it's a blunder.

This is great news. I truly look forward to the updated product! It's great to have a PA who reacts to feedback.

As the OP, if someone could pass on my thanks to the PA I would much appreciate that. As I have already stated, this post was never intended to put people off buying, merely to inform. However I do firmly stand by my opinion that it was a mistake to have static creatures in what could become a dynamic 3D environment.

Anyway, I am pleased that this has led to an amicable resolution!

    Absolutely BRILLIANT news.

I -had- realised the creatures were baked in (as that PA has the 360-view thing for his HDRIs and I always check these before buying. Great service by the way!). And I specifically did -not- buy them as they are completely useless for me with those baked in creatures.

Now though? With this news about creatureless updates? Well, I just bought them smiley.

Indeed. A big thank you from me too.yes

  • Tried the update and some files are missing. Hopefully will get fixed soon. great product but yeah, the creatures there make it almost useless, nice that the PA is trying to correct it.

Yeah, there is a Textures folder in the main Library that should be in the Runtime folder . I don't use 'Smart' content so organise all my Libraries myself which means I pick up loads of things most users won't see unless you delve into the Libraries contents. Another example from an install today is I just found a 50MB hdr file in the Library folder of a product in with all the duf and png files. It is a duplicate of a file already in the Runtime-Textures folder. Why is it there? How come nobody checked and thought 'that's odd'?

Benefits of your effort for sure. Hopefully will get fixed soon.

Thanks for the update. And I found that when it loaded, I had missed out on loading three of the other files! So I went searching in my DIM in-box and installed them too.

  • HaruchaiHaruchai Posts: 2,038

Despite another update via DIM today (3rd February) the files are still not in the right places. The file paths are shot. After going through the files and loading them one by one I have attached screenshots of how the folder structure of the Textures folder should look to make the files work.  There is still a Textures Folder in the main Library so if you can't find some of these files look there.

NOTE - you will not have an 8K version of the Bonus01.hdr. There are two copies of the 256mb 16K version in different folders. The file in my folder, marked with red x marks, is one I created in Photoshop by resizing the 16K version and renaming. Just FYI.

Hope this helps until we finally get correct downloads.

Good catch. All new presets does not work for me. I have just tried to use the main presets and just change/browse to the new hdr files.

So, has this been corrected, finally? I don't want to have to download the 4.5 GB more than once.

Not seen an update in DIM since I reported and no response to my ticket yet so I'm guessing no.

Okay, thanks. I'll wait until the package date changes.
