Will this product work with Genesis 8?

The new pose products seem to say that they work with 8.1 but do not mention 8 at all. Does that mean they will not work on Genesis 8?

I'm so confused by this 8.1 stuff.

If the poses work with 8 or 8.1 they need to say it on the products, or customers like me will simply avoid purchasing any of this new stuff for 8.1.

And if the new 8.1 poses do not work with Genesis 8 at all. Well that's not good. I will have to stop purchasing anything and finally start saving some money.

Good question.  Hierarchical poses tend to be tricky.

OK then I'm out. I really don't need the Genesis 8.1 figures. And if none of the new 8.1 stuff works on Genesis 8 except for the clothes, I guess I will just limit my purchases to wardrobe items and a few new animals here and there. frown

    Why would it not work?

Poses are about bones and their rotation around XYZ axis - G8 and G8.1 share the same geometry, rigging and even the base pose. It's only expressions that may not look the same between them.

    Thanks.

Well then they are marketing the stuff all wrong. It should say it's for 8 and 8.1 and then maybe I'll consider buying it.

It just says Compatible Figures: Genesis 8.1 Female, Genesis 8.1 Male

I read that as "this is only compatible with 8.1 figures".

They could add a caveat that says the expressions are for 8.1 only, but poses work with 8 or 8.1. To someone like me, that would be easier to comprehend.

Either they do or they don't.  Guessing isn't a good idea with Daz.

You are absolutely right, guessing is not a good idea. I was curious myself and tried it. So far, I do not see any problem with G8. It is different with the "Michael" and "Victoria" poses. They do not exactly fit if using V8/M8 versus V8.1/M8.1

Attached snapshot shows poses 10 and 11 of the pack with plain G8

When talking about poses, there is no guessing... You can mix them even between genders and generations, they may not look exactly the same between generations that are using different base poses, but even then it's easy to fix.

If "working" is understood as "No tweaking necessary", then the product pages should also state that they work with only one character as in only with non-modified Michael 8.1, since just changing the height and or weight of the character may require tweaking the pose.

V8 and V8.1 have different shapes, same for M8 and M8.1. So it's normal poses optimized for one shape are not perfect for the other.

Good to know hierarchical poses work between 8 and 8.1. "Regular" poses I expected to work, but hierarchical presets tend to have more restrictions.

  • If a Hierarchical pose did fail the fis would be to apply it to Genesis 8.1, then copy the figure, select Genesis 8, and paste Figure Pose - or simply save a regular pose preset for Genesis 8.1.

I would imagine that the wheelchair poses work because the wheelchair is the parent and the Genesis the child - if Genesis 8.1 were the parent in a hierarchical pose I might expect it to need fixing as above, since it's the ultimate parent that is checked on load.

I have tried both. In my above post, the wheelchairs were parented to the figure.
