Parented Spotlight Please, Please

Is there any product that has a spotlight automatically parented to the figure and pointed to the head for portraits?

I've searched in vain.

I end up laboriously adding a spotlight to the scene and going though the following rigamarole every single time:

  1. Add spotlight
  2. "Point at" figure's head (itself taking about a dozen clicks to get through all the expand menus)
  3. Position spotlight near head
  4. Increase Lumens to 50000 (they are so dim by default)
  5. Adjust spread angle and intensity

There has to be a better way to accomplish a task that is so common.

Is there a product that does this?? I would purchase it in a New York Minute.

And trust me, I own about two dozen light products, and none of them do this, not even the products specifically labeled "Portrait Lights".

Legendary Lights has some auto-parenting spots.

  • Try saving a Wearables preset with the lights as you want them and parented to the figure's head - I've not tried, but there's no obvious (to me) reasone it wouldn't work.

Update: I just purchased the Legendary Lights and the effect is just what I needed. So easy, one click. Thanks!

I'd just look through the light to get the angle etc how you want then select the head in the power pose tab and then parent it, you could then save as a scene preset.

Use the Perspective View or a camera to  look at the figure's face.

Add a spotlight. Open Options. Click "Apply Active Viewport Transformations". Click "Accept".

    Enjoy your new spotlight.

Thank you for all the informative suggestions. There are so many ways to do this.

I didn't want to save my scenes with spotlights, because I use the renders one time, for my artwork reference. So I just needed a one-click solution.

The Legendary Lights product is awesome and answered my prayers!

  • Fabiana has some parented lights in her Heavens product at Rendo. They do a great job.

Still trying to figure out how adding a spot light is labor intensive.

    It's not.

However, adjusting it the way I want is. That's all.

    If you are happy with a spotlight on 0 Y 0 X and 0 Z then it's a piece of cake. :)

  • Create a scene with spotlight all setup.  Add a Null and put it in the head of the person.  Parent the Spotlight to the Null.  Delete everything but the spotlight and Null.  Save the scene.  Then when you want a spotlight, just merge one into your scene and move the Null to the head of the person to be spotlighted.  You could have several, one on each person.
