Eden & Keyana

Based on what I do I usually buy any African models. There really aren't that many black models. Most of them are not any good. So I notice when a new one pops up. I just noticed Keyana and I was thinking to myself that looks exactly like another mode I purchased. It was Eden. I'm not trying to be rude but it seems to be double-dipping a bit. Eden has that Oprah/Rihanna Eye thing going on and so does Keyana. The skin tone is different and Keyana doesn't require other products but it seems to be a bit of DD. I wish Handspun would have actually made a different model. I want to purchase it but won't. Please bring more variety. Thanks!

PAs tend to have a particular style.

  • Unfortunately, that PA tends to have a lot of "sameface" characters, whether they be caucasian, Black, Asian, or fantasy. I can barely tell their characters apart 99% of the time. At least their Black characters aren't "Caucasian Pixie Face with a Spray Tan" these days... but that ain't saying much. :T

  • I can see differences in the nose (width at the top very noticeable), eye shape (smaller, more sloped) at just a quick comparison between promo images.

Handspan/Thorne specialises in a particular style, obviously don't buy it if it doesn't meet your requirements.

I think Keyana is the most normal human I remember them doing.

  • I have them both. Side by side they are different

I fully agree. You immediately spot a Mousso or SASE character. While they are indeed different, they all share some common base "beauty" (for not having an appropriate word for it).

They also tend to present their characters using the same promo style, especially Sabby & Seven over at Rendo, which strengthens the expression of sameness.

Anyway, are they similar, possibly related?  Yes.  Are they identical?  No.  Iray characters lit the same.

Definetly not the same but,.... sisters? Close relatives? They potentially share a lot of genes laugh . But I am very cautious in judging faces that are from a different ethnic group. You only spot minor differences in faces of your own ethnic.

  • Dorthie and Carnival Doll are the worst offenders in my library... you could argue that they are related but they have the same skin textures warts and all.

  • Two questions on Keyana:

    - One can enable/disable the normal via icons. What about the bump? Always enabled?
    - There is a promo saying Jada Body and Head at a certain percentage. There is no Jada by Handspan. Should that maybe say Keyana?

Most likely a typo.  There's a Jada at Renderosity, and HS was likely trying to avoid a naming conflict.

Oh, about the bump.  Default is just shy of 1.0.  The bump map is pretty restrained compared to a lot of characters we've seen recently.  Keyana is not an HD character, but looks pretty good close-up, imo.  Judge for yourself.

Ooooof, yeah, those two vendors suffer a huge case of "Sameface Syndrome" in all their promos over at Rendo. The only character of theirs in recent memory that stands out to me is SASE Ursula, but everyone else is... the same looking white girl with barely adjusted noses, cheekbones, and eyes. Big oooooof.

That said, their promos over here on Daz's storefront do their characters a bit better justice.

My position on characters, even same-face characters, is about the extras. I can dial-spin the face and body, but I like a variety of skin, make-ups, eye treatments, etc. Hair selection makes a big difference in finished appearance, too. I like the weird ones, and I mix-and-match. That made it ok for me to pick up both Carnival Dolls and Dorthie. I have a fair number of SASE characters, too. No apologies for that. I have to put someone in all those outfits, and their characters look good. angel

In they example you give, I can see two that are definitely the same - otherwise widely different freckles and blemishes. Are their skin similar - well yes they are from the same ethnicity of approximately the same age, and been exposed to the same sun and environmental damage - they either both smoke or don't.

I already have Eden, which is why I'm not buying Keyana (or Akila, for that matter), gorgeous as they are.

They all look amazing, each one of them. I just don't need all of them. Self restraint!

Sale prices vs self-restraint. Which one wins? surprise
