Drutherson 8

Well, new figure, no discussion?

Like the new character and given that he's rather short I think we'll see Topsy 8 (which showed up in the store as an requirement for a short time but was quickly removed) soon as well.

Overall like the character and guess it will combine nicely with other characters. So I will probably get it.

Unfortunately DAZ continues with those completely overpriced themed bundles. I mean again, a usual pro bundle had 11-13 items for a base price of $134. With Drutherson we have two bundles for over $150 base price each. And those have only 10/11 items with Drutherson 8 being in both. Also both bundles contain two textures, one does contain an older outfit. So if you take those out we would still have a decent Pro Bundle which could have been priced much better.

At least todays promo makes up for that in parts by thowing in lots of free products.

You are incorrect when you say we get free stuff. We get free old junk. This deal is like overpaying for a timeshare you don't want so you can get a coupon good for $100 worth of clothes at the local thrift store.

It's sitting in my cart at 77.40 for both.  Wondering if there will be a banner for it.  And at least the DOs go in the cart at 72% off when usually on offers like this it seems they're never on sale and only get the 30% PC discount.

I agree, it's not a bundle I'm interested in, but if I can put together a cart of DOs that I might otherwise want at this price, I might pull the trigger figuring I'm buying the DOs and getting the bundles free instead...

I like the character, he's charming & I can see myself using him.. BUT right now, even with the straight (I think, you can never tell with Daz promos any more) 50% off intro discounts, the bundles are out of my budget.* Maybe later on.. Also I think they got the bundle names reversed.

*Yes, I know you get $50 -100 in DOs with the code, but I need the $$ for other things

Check your messages. If you're going to get one, there should be something for "A Special Deal" or some such.

  • i like the character, but feel over the last year a lot of bundles make no sense.

like, this one is a gnome. great! i like gnomes.

does he have a gnome hat? no. gnome house? no. gnome workshop? no. gnome garden? gnome beard? no and no.

what outfit does he have? some pirate leftovers, recycled outfit from ollie, and a mining outfit i'd have thought arguably better suits a dwarf.

    okay.

so... what's so gnomey about the bundle?

he's short and one of his characters is called "dinky". mildly cringey if i were peter dinklage, but there you go.

i feel these bundles need more cohesive themes instead of where the only thing which seems to have a theme is often the banner image.

sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's honestly what stops me buying sometimes. money and cost isn't my issue as much. like, i can see myself buying a gnome. and he looks sort of cool. but what will i dress the poor guy in? where would he have his adventures? what's going to inspire me to buy him? he needs more supporting products which suit the theme, i think. there's no real direction to bundles in a lot of cases lately. they just seem cobbled together by, well, gnomes...

The character, in and of himself, looks like it could be mildly useful.  The whole bundle setup looks like it was conceived of by a badget sniffing glue... and, of course, it's unlikely to be fixed today since it's a Holiday here in the states.

Agreed.  The last couple of bundles don't seem to have been crafted to a concept so much as simply regurgitated from whatever DAZ happened to have already ingested.

At Rendo, actually. Not the cheapest thing, though.

Or you could just go wild with a room and some shaders....

I like the bundles.  Check your messages if you don't have a banner.  With the banner, my cart showed both bundles, the 4 free add-ons (which includes the HD), and $100 of Daz originals that qualify for GIMME-FREE-STUFF for a total price of just over $60.  After applying the coupon code.

Is a buy for me, but I can see how both the character and much of the supporting content is rather niche.

Wow, that's a pretty sweet deal, even for me as someone who doesn't get banners...

It's just too bad that I have absolutely no interest in Drutherson or any of the bundle contents. He seems really well made, I just don't have any use for him. indecision

My cart shows USD 61.92 for both bundles. I am going to think this through and I might actually be able to make good use of the free USD 100 worth of Daz Originals. Still a lot of them in my Wishlist.

I like the mining theme & the elf theme and would like to buy both but since I'm upgraded to Marvelous Designer 10 next week can't.

I know you keep posting this everywhere, but... I haven't seen anyone else post about it, so have you tried re-downloading? If there is a problem with the actual product it will need the PA to fix it (they might have already contacted them if you've submitted a ticket, but given the pace currently it might still be in the pile).

It's valiant to go 'on strike' but I just wanted you to be aware of who 'they' are.

As has been said, the bundle content is a disaster. I should have been over the moon with a steampunk-themed gnome inventor, but the hodgepodge of items that are there seem to have been chosen mostly at random, and I am only interested in a couple of things. I could buy the bundles just for the Daz Originals, but the offer isn't that extraordinary when looked at it historically... I will let the cart settle and look at it later. Otherwise, the figure is maybe a little too toony to suit every setting, and the only character doesn't add that much variety (and some of the variety that caught my attention in the promos is nowhere to be seen, so I guess we will see add-ons tomorrow).

Some issues already.  Good news, it is likely that the companion female gnome is coming soon.  Bad news, a problem with the Male/Female Evergreen outfit slipped through QA.  When loading the outfit, there is a reference call error to textures made for the female evergreen outfit.  Probably shared textures but without both this version is looking in wrong place.

I will submit a ticket so that an update can be in the works.  Meanwhile, I will see if I can locate the missplaced files for a temorary fix.

EDIT: confirmed - some texture and bump map calls for the Evergreen outfit are looking in the G8F content folders, not G8M.  According to my DIM, the files were installed.  I am attaching a screenshot of where DIM says the Evergreen files are installed.  Can be used as temporary fix until update,

Well, I may just buy his hair. My needs for Christmas elves, gnomes or miners are quite small. I am not sure about his clothing. Part of me is tempted by the one with the Santa hat, but quite honestly the rest of it doesn't look very good. Most of the clothing looks odd on the full sized characters in the promos.

  • I just want to give DAZ some props for probably the best deal I've seen from them in a LONG time! I got a LOT of content for only $60 today, so I'm a VERY happy camper. And I find the new character fun. After that previous Gen 8 Character release debacle (IMHO), it was nice to see DAZ having a release that looked like a really amazing deal.

Don't mention timeshares to me. You're bringing back bad memories. Timeshares SEEM like a great idea until you realise they're NOT and you try to get rid of yours.

By the way, your analogy about this bundle is pretty spot on.

Yeah, I've been trying to make this"buy both bundles & save" thing work. Problem is it's NOT working.

The ONLY things I want are the helicopter & underground bunker.

I have never used a gnome, never thought about using a gnome, never plan on it either.

The only clothes I could even remotely use are the Miner's outfit & the Convergence Outfit. As Serene said the former looks funny on full sized characters. The latter is in the Elios 8 Pro Bundle, which I passed on already.

I have put together a few test carts to try to make this deal work, but the reality is I don't think it's wise to spend money on something I will only use 5% of to get $100 worth of items I've picked over countless times & a handful of other freebies that I can't use or are in other bundles.

Hopefully, some of you are in gnome heaven today.

Does anyone else think he looks really creepy? I think I literally had nightmares about a character like this. At first the deal seemed great with all those freebies but there is very little, if anything I could see myself actually using in the bundle. Maybe just the hair or one of the outfits fit on a female character. I guess the female version will be coming soon and hopefully have the same deal. Really on the fence. His skin does look good on regular G8M but his shape really freaks me out!

Considering that I would get both bundles for $ 55.- and a load of old stuff that sits in my wishlist for quite a while and some not so old stuff that doesn't sit in my wishlist for free (= $ 100.- and it's even reduced items for once, not the full price option) this would be a really nice deal...

    if...

    • I would need more of the stuff that comes in the bundles (as it is there's three wishlist worthy items for me in both bundles (total) and
    • I had any money available to spend after the October/November Madness Sale (aka PC+ Festival) which depleted my financial reserves utterly

So it's off to the wishlist for the Gnome, the XXXS pirate outfit and the alternative shapes... and I'm a bit on a fence about the russian (?) Underground Bunker, which seems to look totally terrific, but I just can't think of any use for it...

Not my thing, I agree, these bundles look like fridge leftovers. The only thing I want is the steampunk flyer,
I still want an Egyptian gentleman for the Twoset collection and a cat 8....

  • It was a really great offer for me today. I was able to spend the free $ 100 on at least 2 items from my wishlist that I've been waiting for. So the shopping cart says a total of 752.30 and after all the discounts it went back to 61.30 which is a savings of 92% ... not bad I think.  And I'm pretty sure that I can use the stuff over the time. It's good to have it available in the library. So I have to say THANKS to DAZ today.

Personally, I think this is one of the best deals . Christmas is coming and I think he would make a great elf for Santa. With the banner deal both bundles are $56US for me. That would not have clinched it but with 4 free add-ons and the $100 free Daz originals it does. Especially since they've included recent bundles in that mix. So I can get both Khemset and Twossret bundles for $3 after the $100 coupon is applied. That's pretty sweet if you ask me

" Die Sonne" ( from the band Rammstein) fan art is the first thing that comes to my mind and most likely i will do. :D

I wish the promos would show the clothing items separately, shirts not connected to pants. I often kit bash male clothes on females creating quirky fashion outfits. I’m really trying to figure out how to make this bundle usable because I have several Daz O freebies I do want but the promos are not helping.

I'm buying for the deal, mostly. Essentially I'm buying Daz Originals from my wishlist at 82% off and getting the Drutherson items as a bonus.

The underground shelter and wrapping paper shaders look good, and having a gnome on standby might be handy for rendering D&D characters or illustrations, so not a bad deal.

This is the first purchase that I've made from Daz in eleven days. Site problems have really put me off. But if we can get the same deal for the female gnome, I might make another purchase. Make it happen, Daz.
