Still can't delete a keyframe in timeline in 4.14 >_< Daz's animation tool rant

I mean come on Daz Studio!! is it really this hard to add a delete button to a key frame?  if there is one, why is it so hard to find?

I was hoping Daz's animation tool would improve over time, afterall you have good foundation and tons of powerful native/3rd party tools that leads to great potential. But it really drives me nuts when you don't even polish the most basic function.

I worked on an animation for 3 hours without save and I screwed up one keyframe in my timeline and now I have to delete the whole scene to do it all over again!! completely devastated.  WHY DAZ? is delete button to a keyframe really technically impossible???

This is a usability issue indeed.  The trouble you're having is the key is actually somewhere in properties on the character itself.  The key you're trying to delete isn't the one you need to delete.  I can't remember the correct terminology (Richard knows).  I think you can find the correct key by looking under Properties -> Pose Controls (on the timeline) and hunting it down in there, i.e. some pose control has created the key further down the hierarchy, if you see what I mean.

And in case I have the wrong end of the stick, there's a delete button on the timeline (Keys: - and +), select the key and click the minus.

Not sure what this means, it's a nice beginner tutorial, but nothing in that video I don't already know, animate a character is vastly different than animate a cube.

Thanks for the tips, now I just use puppet tool to record my animation it's alot safe that way, but it's still very user unfriendly, yes I get what you saying, but I just don't understand why update after update, they just can't add a simple delete keyframe button to the targeted frame to make their users life much easier, is not even too much to ask.  As for the - keys, I figured it really doesn't delete the whole pose in that specific frame i.e not what I wanted, the only way I can reset my figure’s animation is  "clear animation" -> "clear figure's pose" but it often mess things up more than it helped

  • Yeah, I've found to delete some keyframes, you have to open up the tree and find the exact bone it's for, and some you can just highlight and hit the minus arrow. It would be so much easier to just be able to highlight it under the name of whatever or whoever and delete it there. It really is annoying.

I saw the email the other day about being able to bridge the character from Maya back into Daz with the animation keyframes, I really hope they do this with Blender as two days ago I spent about five hours trying to animate a character stepping up onto a ledge but the feet kept moving everywhere, I couldn't keep them in place, and when I did the IK chain, it made it worse and some frames the legs went every which way and then back to where they should have been. Out of curiosity if it was my skillset or the program, I went into Blender and within twenty minutes was able to animate it perfectly. They're moving in the right direction, but there's still a lot of work to be done.

Yeah their IK chain & user axis problem is annoying as hell too, but I've learned to work it thro the hard way via Daz's exclusive workflow, using puppeet tool could slove the axis problem mostly, but it can never be as accurate as it's Iclone & blender,  I understand Daz's animation tool doesn't follow industray norms, and quite frankly it does have some powerful features other tools don't have, such as aniBlock, I love it, it's just they refuse to solve some fundmental interface problem frustates me to no end.

  • I come to these focus and lurk through these threads - mostly to see that I am not suffering alone. You said you really like aniblock. I don't disagree that it has incredible potential but feel there is lack of useful aniblock content. Just some short awkard dance loops, odd walking clips, strange standing/sitting poses ... Many of them leave off hand motions and any sort of expression or eye movement too. Am I missing something? Is there some great source of Aniblocks that I am unaware of? Just seems like lots of older 'demo-like' content. Not putting you down - truly hoping there is something I have overlooked. Thanks and Happy Holidays

There is definitely a need for more aniblocks and animations. It's been getting better though and we're seeing more and more animations being added to the store lately. :) https://www.daz3d.com/animations

I hope it's a trend that continues as I'd love to see more animations added.

People get directed to various places to get answers about DAZ things. For instance, if I asked about new features in some version of DAZ I'd get directed to a forum post about the latest version of the software; if I asked about a Filament product I'd get directed to a PDF file, and if I asked about animation or HeadShop I'd get directed to a YouTube video. Whether it's an irrational thought or not, I'm starting to think if you ask how to do something, people get downright offended that you didn't know exactly where to look for the answer. It would go very far if DAZ had a consistent place that they put information about how to do things. Or at the very least, it would be nice if the description of everything would tell you whether you're supposed to be hunting for a forum post, a PDF file, or a YouTube video.

  • You can make your own aniblocks and build from there, even repurposing other aniblocks ,mocaps or animation files. You need aniMate 2 to save them.

  • OP is totally on target here. Intermediate in 4.14 should work like the 4.10 advanced view.  Need to kill a key? In 4.10 just jump to it and delete. 2 clicks of the mouse. If I have the same issue in in 4.14? Forget using intermediate....can't even delete a key there anyway so off to advanced which means a lot more clicking. I did a count. In 4.10 to delete a key it usually meant 2 clicks. In 4.14? Let us say I find an opps on the pelvis, go click the uper right hand tab on the timeline, click advanced, click the node you already had clicked, click the pelvis in the sheet, click properties, click general/transforms/rotation, highlight the keys and click delete.....GG Daz.
