DS 4.14 Crashing

Is anybody else having issuse with DS 4.14 crashing often? I have been trying to do an animation with 2  characters with a few springs applied with the new springs script and DS just suddenly disappears from my screen. A few times DS crashed and gave a failure dialogue but crashing  it is consistantly happening. Any ideas?

Now that you mention it I have been having problems particuflarly during rendering. either stopping a render early will crash the program or saving a render will crash the program even though it saves the render.

  • What are your system specs? What are you typically doing when, or just before, it crashes - if there is a typical activity?

Did you guys install the Octane Plug-in? That was frequently crashing Daz Studio for me. I followed the instructions by valzheimer and that helped a lot: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/6241596/#Comment_6241596

So deleting this file fixed the crashing issue for me: C:\Users\[username]\OctaneRender\Data\OctaneRender_settings.oczdb

Of course, that would only help if the crashing issue you are experiencing is Octane related like mine was.

Richard Specs: i8700, 3.7Ghz 64bit ; 32GB ram; Nvidia GTX 1080 Studio Driver ver 457.30. Generally what I am doing is making small animatons and I use a few different scripts like Springs or VWD when system crashes.

I just tried the same scene and scripts and same Nvidia driver in DS 4.12 with no problems.

  • I was more asking if there was an action, or type of action, that seemed to immediately precede a crash - though knowing the general kind of thing you are doing may be helpful too.

Which viewport Filament or Texture shaded?

Richard I was applying springs to a character after I already applied them to another on one occasion and trying to use VWD  on another. I have also had crashes when I simply started a render in Iray and in Filament.

DS 4.12 has not crashed even on same hardware with same drivers.

This raises a question. What actual advantage is there to upgrading to 4.14?

I'm on a Mac, so I don't have access to Nvidia hardware. Filament is also a no-go. Are there any actual features or improvements in 4.14 that are accessible to me? Is there any practical reason for me to upgrade at this point in time?

I'm very much in an "it ain't broke" position right now. I don't do animations, and don't care about Iray. What's in 4.14 for me?

I'd stick with 4.12 if you're happy with it.

  • Win10, 2080Ti, found Studio 4.12 very stable.

Win10, 2080Ti Studio 4.14, PoS by comparison. Many crashes where Daz simply quits and I'm left cursing. Now I'm saving every few changes.

Worst offender seems to be Filament. I absolutely won't use it now.

Still using 4.12.0.86 as it has no problems that I have encountered and waiting to see what kind of problems early adopters are having.

4.14 was about support for RTX 30xx, Filament and fixes for problems with timeline in 4.12.1.xx, none which concern me. So far it looks like I'm skipping this one too.

  • Happens to me all the time since 4.14 upgrade and I have not installed Octane or Filament; Windows 10; Intel i9-9940X CPU 3.30 Ghz with 128 GB Ram.
