Whip out your WIPs

Been some time since we've had a WIP thread.
So what are you working on?
Me? Someone requested a Zipper Ninja costume and I said I'd make it as soon as I got more comfortable working with 3D coat. I think I'm pretty much ready to start working on it now.
It'll all be dark blue when finished with a black leather mask. The different colours are just to make it easier for me to tell what part of the model I'm currently sculpting.

Very nice! Who is it for? G2M?
This is my WIP. I'm just calling her Freckles for now. This is for V4++. There's a fun alternate head morph I'm working on to go with it. The eyebrows are on the eyebrow layer, so the color can be changed and there's one other option for them. This is without makeup. I'm working on the final makeup option choices.

It's for Genesis 1. I'm not a big fan of the Genesis 2 series.
Working on Wildfire from the Legion of Super Heroes, DC Comics for Genesis, Genesis 02 Male and when Dusk (counterpart for Dawn) comes then for him too. All clothing and energy props made by me. Custom body morph and a custom 2nd skin rather than making a body suit.
You know those cheep @$$ flip-flops you buy in the grocery store that hurt your feet 30 seconds after you put them on but they only cost a dollar?
Gloves, boots, and mask have been retopoed. Now just the gi left to do and the Zipper Ninja outfit will be complete.
You need to add a morph where the toe piece comes out through the bottom :D
...Merida from the film Brave character morph (still trying to figure out the disappearing eyebrows issue when applying the SSS Toon Shader).
I think you forgot the picture there KK.
Also, the Zipper Ninja is no longer a WIP! It'll be up on Share CG as soon as Share CG is back online.
...still working on her. Not pleased with the "no eyebrow" look. Put the question up on the SSS thread.
Here she is before I applied the SSS shader.
That looks really good.
I'm WIPping up a set of graphics for my arcade machine prop to make a Stratovox cabinet. I have to take some liberties with the design because of the shape of my cabinet. I think I'm going to create a set of morphs the will move the controllers around the surface of the control panel for making custom layouts.
...here's the latest. The one posted above was based on the mix of several toon characters and realistic models. It had some inherent issues particularly in the lower face that I tried to clean up with Dformers.
The actual character has a very round head and face shape compared to a RL human which, even working with the various toon characters I have, was very difficult to achieve.
So back to the drawing board and an experiment trying a different approach using Teen Julie as she has fairly soft facial features and higher cheekbones. After several hours of morphing, shaping (including altering proportions such as reducing the Y axis scale of her head and pulling the forehead back using one of Die Tryings Genesis morphs) this is the result.
For now still using Bolina Hair until I get better with Garibaldi Express to attempt creating that wild mop the original character has on my own and the Fairytale Dress (hoping someone will release a freebie of the original dress or at the very least, an MFD texture.
Next step is to giber her more toon like eyebrows and apply\y the toon shader.
She looks great!!
As an alternative hair, there's kind of a wild mop over at rendo called Ariadne Hair (http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=58291). You might be able to get what you want out of it without bothering with the Garibaldi Express.
...thank you
Already checked that one and it doesn't have the full set of length morphs that Bolina Hair has as her hair has to come all the way down to her butt without distorting. Even with Bolina, side and three quarter shots are tricky because it is essentially "flat". I also notice there is forward distortion when lengthening the falls that come over the front of her shoulders for which there are no correction morphs.
What I need is something thicker and fuller, particularly in the back along the Z axis, and that parts in the centre, which is why I am considering using Garibaldi for the finished version.
I watched the videos about the creation of the character, and for the film they actually had to write a custom programme and build a custom system just to design her hair. I know I can get the length and fullness I need, it's getting those wild curls that will be the real challenge.
1930's-ish dress. As you can see, the best things about drapey clothes is that Blender's cloth physics do 75% of the work.
I'm currently working on making its UV's less crap, after which, I'll re-drape the skirt (I had to drape using weird settings and a lot of turbulence to get the top to drape non symmetrically, unfortunately it made the skirt look off)
Kyoto, try Asteria Hair from Rendo. To all: you have some pretty exciting projects going! Will you all publish them? I hope so...
Yes, mine are all available on my ShareCG account.

Hmmm that's really nice. I wonder if 3D Coat has the ability to drape yet?
Well, I've already started watching you a long time ago :).
...not sure if there are any extreme length morphs. Looked at the readme and there is a "longer" morph but not sure how far it can lengthen the hair.
Below is a stock shot of the actual Merida character to illustrate the length and body of her hair.
Now I know I cannot get exactly what Pixar created (without the same software and hardware they used) but would like to get as close as possible.
It has a pseudo cloth simulation. It doesn't have a lot of control over it (gravity, friction, thickness) and tends to liquify more than clothify the mesh. But if you use it as a starting point for a mesh it does give you a pretty good guide for sculpting your cloth. I'm pretty amazed that until very recently 3D Coat was a one man show when it comes to the programming. Now they they have a second programmer working on it we'll probably see more attention paid to some of the things like basic box modelling and cloth tools. I hope they revisit the autopo routines because that could really use some improvement.
COOL. thanks Ghastly!
...here is a closeup.
After finding some additional pre production images, made a few slight changes to her head shape. Also kind of cheated on her hair by loading a second Bolina hair prop and superimposing it over the first to get a little more thickness (going to be a real pain when posing her)
In CG if it works, it ain't cheating.
Fixing shaders from antique daz file versions and doing photo compose on corel photopaint
...nice compositing.
I like the materials change as well looks more "Sci Fi" than the original.
...as I know nothing about "packaging" a set of character morphs the best I can do is release the morph settings I used. Also since Merida is under copyright not sure what the implications of publishing the morph are.
oh that looks comfy. no red eye from traveling in comfyness
Trying to make a Carbonite Containment unit that will work with poses and morphs. Still in the testing phases. Getting closer to what I want. I'm on the right track. Just have a few more things to work out so it'll be perfect.
Looks more like one of those fetish vacuum beds right now.
Hah! That's slick :D
