DAZ suddenly ignoring GTX 1050

Hello -

After updating DAZ today, it seems to be rendering exclusively on CPU and ignoring the GeForce GTX 1050 in my lappy, though the settings say to use it. I have not tried with another scene yet, though previous renders with the same content have used at least some GPU. Seems to be crying about memory re-allocation and an illegal memory access issue/device initialization failure in the log and being unable to access the GPU. The renders are completing on CPU with no visible degredation in quality. An ideas?

Thanks.

Alkmost certainly a case of an older driver - the version of Iray in the latest DS requires fairly recent drivers, 442.19 (or newer) on Windows for Turing GPUs (which is what you have)

Ah! Where might I find updates? HP? My device is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 that was in the gaming lappy as new.

Downloaded and installed what is described as being the correct driver, studio version. Will test at earliest opportinity. Thanks for help thus far. Fingers crossed.

Well, no joy. I'm still having the same issue. Windows diagnostics finds no problem with the card. Seems related to the DAZ update somehow.

The only other thing is that there isn't enough memory on the card for the scene and it is dropping to CPU only. on some scenes what would work before don't work now because of the way Iray is allocating memory.

But why now? The previous 13 renders of the same series, with the same content, were fine until the update of DAZ. Same thing happened in another scene. Daz just seems to have randomly decided not to use the GeForce.

Has the new version set the graphics optimization to speed instead of memory? That might push a scene over the edge.

Exactly which driver did you get?

Good thought. Is that the same as Instancing optimization? That's set to Speed, but I think it was like that before.

If you have more than one graphics card make sure the driver will work with both cards and multiple monitors.  I have a GTX 970 for my 2 monitors and a RTX 2060 Super for rendering but when I upgraded my version of studio beta it would only render with cpu so of course upgrade the driver.  The first one I tried was the newest driver and only my 970 would work, then I tried another and only one monitor worked and the 970 card, a third driver only the other monitor would work along with the 970 card. Finally the fourth driver I tried had both video cards and both monitors working.

     Set it to memory.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

In the History window, it still generates the Native CPU code and then goes right to iterating. Is it possible that the History window just doesn't reference GPU useage any more for some reason? The renders complete in the specified time with no discernable degredation in quality from before. Looking at the log, it appears to be using 8 cores and one device, the CPU. I'd just love to know what has changed. I have tried several other very light scenes, and it seems to totally ignore the GPU after the DAZ update.

If you install NVidia GeForce Experience it will notify you when there are driver updates, it will also download and install them for you.

I did that, but the driver update didn't solve the problem.

I just had a similar problem with my Titan-RTX just the other day.  BOth DAZ and windows said my drivers were up to date, but there are actually two different driver variations for NVIDIA cards, one called Game Ready and the other called Studio, and during my last auto update the Studio Drivers were replaced with the Game Ready Version.  I went online, reinstalled the Studio version, and everything worked again.

I did not realize there was both I just always updated the game ready will change thanks!

I would check the version number. I had a similar problem and thought I had updated: but for some reason I had to do it again.

  • RenderPretenderRenderPretender Posts: 1,041

I installed the Studio version, but I'll do it again and try to verify that it's actually installed.

It is possible. I had the same thing.

My scenes render fast enough, to assume the GPU is in use, but as you say, it is not listed.

  • RenderPretenderRenderPretender Posts: 1,041

Well, I went online and re-installed the Studio version. It indicated having installed successfully, so I rebooted toe computer, opened a light scene in DAZ, unchecked CPU (to perhaps force the render to GPU?), and tested. The log says that it's rendering with one device - the GPU - but the History panel in DAZ references the GPU only generally, and not by name the way it used to. So I'm not sure what's up with that. I guess I'll rely on nthe log.

BTW, should I be using OptiX and the Noise Reducer by default, or no?

I swapped form game to studio dont really see a diff in my case. Im more stoked when my 2080ti will be installed by Monday..

  • hey render pretender. i was in the process of trying to figure out a similar problem when i stumbled apon this feed....which was unhelpful.... but i actually solved my problem myself by messing with things...and suprisingly..i think i can help you!

...if youre still having this issue?! Not solving this could make you lose hope an become very frustrated i understand that as well as anyone hahah.

ok so... side note. when ya have daz open hit "ctrl, alt, delete" go to task manager and you should be able to see all the processes in percentages right?! under the processes tab.

mine says cpu\memory\disk\netword\gpu....... and there you can see what is working, and what is doing what, when... like how much your gpu is being used vs cpu (in %)

this is very helpful. idk if you know about this..you prolly do...but if not this is gonna help you solve this problem...

    some things to consider:

my fix for some reason and it might be just this easy for you....be in the textured viewport when rendering. This IS NEW?! I USE TO LWAYS BE IN IRAY VEIW THEN HIT RENDER
