Prop locations question

Is there an easy way to get a prop in a certain location.

For instance, on this crystal ball which is not included with this pose, I had to move the ball left, right, up, down, backward, forward, while panning the viewport, until I finally was able to get it into the correct position within the area of the hands.

Surely, there must be an easier way to do this, or perhaps a utility which is designed for this very thing. I cannot tell you how much time it would save.

As an example, I can point out the following utility which has been phenomenal in my opinion, for getting people to look at each other... whereas before this, I was moving the head and the eyes manually.

  • One option is to parent the prop to a nearby item (such as one of the hands here) with parent in Place off - it will then move to align its centre point with the centre point of the parent. That isn't always useful, depending on what you want and how the prop is set up, but it can make a good starting point. There's also the Align pane - the first item selected is the fixed point, relative to which the other node(s) are positioned.

Easier way is to use the default pose on the character first to place/parent the object in the hand. The coordinate values of the object will be in relation to the base point of the character (between the feet)

Thanks. Don't know why I didn't think of this before. It worked!

To expand on Richard's idea..... parent by dragging the object to the hand in the scene hierarchy rather than "change [object] parent". By default it seems that has "parent in place" off.
