Connecting to DAZ 3D, Login Issue
Hello,
I’m getting a message that I don’t quite understand when I try to login through DAZ connect menu:
Connecting to DAZ 3D requires a valid connection to a PostgreSQL CMS database. A database connection could not be established. Check for the following potential causes.
• PostgreSQL application files are not installed, or are not installed correctly.
• Anti-Virus software has quarantined PostgreSQL application files.
• Firewall software/hardware is blocking the connection to PostgreSQL CMS.
• The current user does not have permissions to execute PostgreSQL application files.
I haven’t tried logging in since I updated DAZ to version 4.12.0.86. I was trying to use Smart Content, which I don’t usually use, and it doesn’t work now. I’m on MacOS Mojave 10.14.6. I’m guessing that something isn’t installed correctly, but I don’t know enough about this message to begin to solve this issue.
Thanks

The PostgreSQL is what drives Smart Content (for which you do not need to be online), as well as the Presets tabs in various property panes and the product and categoriy lists in the Content Library pane. You are not getting the message at launch of DS? Have you checked the things listed in the error dialogue?
I’m getting a message at launch of DS, see attached file.
To be honest I’m not sure how to check some of the things on the list. I searched for “PostgreSQL” and I see that they seem to be where they’re supposed to be, see attached file, maybe. As for Firewall “software/hardware blocking the connection to PostgreSQL CMS” I looked at the “Nework” tab in “System Preferences”, but I’m not sure what I’m seeing there. It’s my iMac, that only I use, and I’m on my home wifi, so I’m the administrator, so I’m equally in the dark about permissions.
Be glad to read whatever I need to to get up to speed on this. Daz isn’t having any other issues with the Content Tab, just the Smart Content.
Are there two files because one is in the Downloads folder and one in the Manifests folder? If so, then if the first one is in Manifests that should mean PostgreSQL is installed - the second one is a conversion tool for dataabses created with Valentina, which hasn't been sued for a while now so isn't likely to be relevant (it also won't have done any harm, though).
I found that in using DIM, when I changed settings in that, it changed the setting in D/S and then D/S couldn't find PostgreSQL. The solution was to fix the address inside of D/S so it could find it again.
Edit > Preferences > CMS settings ... put in the appropriate address for where it is on your computer or harddrive.
Ok, I tried connecting in CMS settings. This is the file path below, if I’ve understood you right. I clicked “Apply” and “Accept”. Nothing changed in Smart Content, so I quit DAZ and relaunched. I still got the same connection failure message [connection to PostgreSQL CMS] I hope I just misunderstood something in your instructions.

No, it should be the path to the folder containing the ContentCluster folder -- I'm not sure what the default is on a Mac.
First, do you have you DAZ Connect Library mapped correctly i DAZ Studio?
If the Connect Library is "missing" or mapped wrong, DAZ Studio will report, missleadingly, that "A valid Postgres Connection cannot be established".
So, first take a look at that.
Second, it that was not the case, if the DAZ Connect library is correctly mapped, the content cluster directory should point at the ContentCluster, which is located at ~/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms, navigate to that folder with the Finder, is it there? If it is there, in the ContentCluster folder, there is a file named dblog.txt. Open with TextEdit, TextWrangler or BBEdit and see what it says, look at the end of the fle. It might yell about wrong file access rights.
Start there and report back.
Sorry, I’ve been away for a while.
Looked at:
/Application Support/DAZ 3D/
In that folder is:
Studio4/dazstudio.dat
And nothing else. If I’m looking in the right place then that’s all I found. I’m not sure what that means, or what to do about it. Also, I’m not sure what is meant by “DAZ Connect ”
Daz Connect is installing through Daz Studio, rather than manually or through Install Manager/Daz Central.
For Me it Worked to Uninstall CMS and Install Again in Daz Install Manager ---- Maybe that might Help Someone :D
