Cheapest PC to run Daz Studio decently?
Hi.
Pretty new to using Daz Studio. Used to use Poser 5 and 7 quite a lot back in the day.
Recently got Daz Studio 4.12 downloaded and got a few things to test out. However my PC is clearly not up to the task of rendering complex scenes.
My specs are as follow....
Processor: AMD E2-7110 APU with AMD Radeon R2 Graphics, 1800 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 logical processor(s) Installed Physical Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB
As you can tell it's a very low spec budget PC. It crashes out when attempting to render anything more than a single character figure.....and it takes about 40 minutes to render a single character figure with no background!
Just wondering if anyone knows of any decent pre PC builds that will run the software better? Is a RTX 2060 build really the lowest standard I should be aiming for?

An 8GB card is certainly highly desirable, but 6GB might be usable for soem things (especially combined with Scene Optimiser or some other way of down-sizing texture images). You also want a lot more system memory.
Do you think this PC would run Daz 3D decently? Like be able to render 2 clothed characters and a proper background all in the same scene?

8GB RAM still looks a bit tight - 16GB would be better. A 1TB drive isn't enormous, though you could always add an external later. beyond that I'm really not sure - listing only the one HDMI connector is odd, I would expect more than one on the GPU if it's a separate card (which can then be replaced later) - in fact I don't see any mention of expansion slots at all, nor of the power supply.
If your primary purpose for this PC is to use DAZ, then a GPU upgrade is definitely worth considering. If you're going to use DAZ for rendering, then you'll need an NVIDIA card because you'll want to use iray for its speed. Using AMD Radeon, I believe you're relegated to 3DLight which is a CPU render engine. This will drag your system down and not allow you to do anything else when rendering and also eat up your RAM.
You can also just keep your old PC add some memory and render in Blender.
+1
Although even adding RAM, it's still going to be slow.
Before spending cash to solve what you think is the problem; identify the problem then decide what you want to do about it.
Slow renders is a symptom of the problem.
Do you want to throw cash at the problem straight away, or investigate various options before deciding where the cash should be spent? You are going to need to spend cash sooner or later if you want a more enjoyable experience.
That image was rendered and post-processed in Blender on a Threadripper 1950x CPU, which is faster than my 980ti. It uses all Daz assets. I use the Diffeomorphic plugin to transfer items and it also converted the hair to a particle system (similar to strand hair in Studio).
Yes there is a learning curve, but I get more freedom to do what I want, and faster renders; ymmv.
I was testing out this (https://www.daz3d.com/ry-bambie-character-and-hair-bundle) Bundle to be sure the hair would convert reasonably well. OOC's hairs seem to, and I have a shed load of them, mainly for G3F.

Nvidia graphics card with as many cuda cores and as much video memory as you can afford.
Intel i5 4 cores/8threads >2Ghz (>3Ghz better) (or AMD equivalent if you prefer), 8GB RAM (16GB RAM better), At least a 500GB SSD
Iray rendering needs the best Nvidia GPU you can afford.
S.
I'm running a GTX 1060 6gb I bought two years ago on a computer I built seven years ago base don an third gen Intel Core i7 processor. I loaded it up with 32gig of ram, which is nice because I can built very large complex scenes. Downside, the larger or more complex a scene, the longer it takes to render. The cuda core count is more about the speed of the render, not the quality. An RTX 2080ti won't do any better than what I have now, it'll just do it faster.
IMHO, if you want to get serious in Daz, you're going to need to fork out some cash to do anything of substance. I would suggest looking at a budget gaming pc running an nvidia card. You could probably get a decent machine around $500 that'll be a step in the right direction. Best Buy and Amazon have decent return policies, so it may benefit you to try out a few different systems until you find one that works the best for what you're looking to do.
How do you configure your materials? Do they come in ok?
When I build one for my self, the first priority is reliability and compatibility, then comes the speed and expandability. Due to these reasons, I'm using Intel chipsets that are meant for high-end desktops.
On a budget, I would be looking at used systems with X99 chipset and i7 processor as the base, install min. 32GB memory and choose an RTX 2060 - RTX 2070 for the GPU.
The GPU is by far the most important component with DS / Iray (=>Nvidia).
They do come in; the plugin creates a character ready to pose; you can import Studio ones, or you can create your own; you can also import it ready posed, but then importing Studio ones would be problematic.
The materials there are my own; I used Agenesis 2 in studio so wanted to get a similar look. I didn't want to re-create the same materials, that seemed like a hastle to me, just the look.
I'm still tweaking but pretty happy with how it stands now.
For anyone looking to do high quality stuff on an older or cheaper computer, I have found using HDRI enviroments to be a huge render time saver. So I would recommend explordering this option. To date, I get my HDRI's from HDRIhaven.com as they're attribution only/royalty free.
For reference, the attached render took 5 hours at 1.15 quality and 100% convergence. Four characters with real hair and eyebrows, fully clothed, plus a 4k movie quality vehicle, with reflections, opacities, and reflections look pretty good. Virtually no post-work (I tweaked the contrast to make the greens pop more).
Edit: Forgot to mention the render size was 5000x3090px.
