Fixmypcmike, that's certainly true, and so I understand it better that PAs add '3D' to their names.
Sevrin's argument that some of these names are from earlier times might also be partly correct. But one could be a bit more friendly - especially if I'm accused of being unnecessarily upset...
Something you pretend to be pressing for a person who's rushing towards you that you really don't want to be near?
For some reason long sessions on Rendo always give me eye fatigue and I get fidgety. And the sample or promo renders don't display as neatly as they do in the Daz store.
Anyway, my contribution to this thread is that I searched for dog treats just now, and bingo, Predatron's Chew Time Props did not come up!!! So much for cross-referencing.
I am sure that this is making Steve very happy.
claims to be "listening"
i beg to differ.

their sales would definitely go up if they organized.
their loss.
Well the store software is getting updated, so we can hope that it will work better. I mean...can it really be worse?
The search here is terrible. Somehow the forum search is even worse. Just use Google to search everything.
Another thing that might help is if PA used a First Last name for the character, which would help out with double named assets
So, instead of having to come up with the 4th iteration of the spelling of "Jane", it could just bee Jane Moussou, or Jane Lyoness, or Jane A etc.
Also, I wish the convention of naming duf files for characters with leading " ! " etc, would stop. It plays havoc with my categories.... I expect to find Jane A, alphabetically with the "J"s, not at the top of the list with the other !!!_body.duf.png files.
You probably need to go and wash your mouth out with soap and water.
Duh, gee, Tennessee, it helps keep the main files at the top of the list though.
While there ARE tags, they often make the search results even more... random seeming - and still not get you the item you were lookiing for.
I particularly like when I am searching for an item I *OWN* already, that I also know I *BOUGHT* at DAZ (and is new enough it is still for sale), because I want to see if the files have been updated or if there is an expansion out that I need/want (but haven't picked up yet)... and even typing the EXACT NAME (in quotes or without) yields no results or a random mess of everything BUT what I was looking for!
... and you can't just look for the expansion, because it is named "Autumn Leaves" (for example) when it is a texture set for "Victorian Huntsman for Genesis 3 Males" and there is no way you remember that 'connection'!
... and if you DID somehow remember that name on a product you saw 3 years ago, it wouldn't help because if you search for "Autumn Leaves" everything BUT it will come up!
... (big sigh) though actually I have become largely apathetic about hoping the situation is going to change (seeing as it has been.. wow, 16 years I think - and it is still the same). The part that REALLY torques me is when you install said texture expansion (unless you micro-manage manual install, which is what I have to end up doing), it is installed in a folder under that artist's name with a subfolder called "Atm Ls G3" and not in any way associated with the product it is the expansion for!!! So good luck, Dora the Explorer on finding it (as it is ALSO not close to expansion product name except in hindsight)!!!!
And then, because not enough insults have been added to this injury, once you DO manually place it in a sub-folder of the base product so you can actually find and USE it; congratulations! You just broke the metadata and DS is going to randomly complain about it! (or refuse to load it since it cannot find some key that says you actually own the product since it is not where it expects it to be)
and actually - now that I pause for a breath... it is still so much better than it was! That is the real crying tragedy - when your grateful you can get it to work despite all the time and frustration when it is something you PAID for and should have worked *the first time* and been appropriately located! And before *ANYONE* defends some artist for being sloppy and egotistical (which is exactly what it is), think for a moment: Do you have to know the engineering team name that designed your car when you go to have it worked on because otherwise they can't find the correct parts? Or of your TV when you want to watch something on Amazon Prime or NetFlix because it is got some propriatory naming convention that makes it need to be re-setup EVERY time? Or really, *anything* else that you buy or own? No, you would be back at the store/dealer so fast you'd break several laws of Physics and screaming so loud the staff would swear your name was Karen!
the part that really confuses me is NOT that some PA does this (for reasons we won't discuss), it is that DAZ hasn't set up a more strict set of guidelines for submitted products that kick it back to them until they do it *right*. DAZ does many things *wonderfully* - even better than most companies, but this one... yeessh.
That only works to some degree, like really exceptional deals for specific products that people already know are there. If potential customers search for something more general in description, for example, "blue suede shoes", with no specific product or brandname, the three-click-rule applies: the product page for a pair of blue suede shoes should be reachable within three clicks from entering the main site page, or customers will leave your site, and pick the next on the list from google instead.
Now, Daz is odd anyway. Search doesn't just use tags (I'm actually not sure it uses tags at all here). Instead, it searches through productnames and descriptions. If your searchstring comes up in any product description, then that product will show up in the results. If a long dress has the sentence "Are you tired of those short skirts?" in its description, then that dress will show up when someone searches for "short skirts". Generally, things in the Daz store are easier to find when you search through Google. Searching through google also catches the chance you were mistaken, and the thing you're searching for happens to be sold at Rendo instead..
