    Complaint: Shortages

Okay... I got the toilet paper and hand sanitizer shortages... and paper towels and isopropyl alcohol and Lysol wipes... and even the yeast and four...

    But 5 gallon buckets?

    WTF?

    Buckets.

What stupid crap are people doing with buckets that buckets are sold out everywhere I go?

Are people using them to hoard stuff in now or something?... is there some stupid exercise people are doing with them or are they filling they up with drinking bleach?

    Geez.

Non-complaint:  just found this guy in my yard today.  Neat!

That's a very pretty specimen... our garter snakes around here are generally dull greenish-yellow and blackish-brown... although I've seen the yellow lean towards almost an orange, and the brown towards a dark olive green.
I hardly ever find them anymore... I suspect that the fact that every other property in the area has almost completely removed all the woods in the yards in favor of lawns might have something to do with it.
Each year there are less and less trees and more and more grass and white plastic fences... Pfffft.

I keep getting hints from the neighbour that has lived in the village for yonks, who says that the Lady who lived in the house when they first moved here had a gardener who used to keep the hedge looking lovely. Last time he whinged I replied that when I first moved in I had a husband who could do the same, but now I am on my own and my hedgecutter comes twicw a year.  However, due to Covid 19 he missed the early cut and the next cut is not due till the end of Summer.  He then wanted to know why I couldn't get him to come earlier. I told him that she might have had a neat tidy short hedge,  I have birds, (and bees and butterflies) that weren't nearly so prolific before, because the hedge got cut so often they had nowhere to nest especially the little birds.  who can now build nests in the hedge.

It's really sad in many cases because the people here just clear out everything and their yards are all grass... the lots around here average .75 - 2 acres... so in back they'll have 150 ft wide 300 ft lawn with a 20' x 30' patio and nothing else, surrounded by the bane of my existence white PVC fencing.

A lot of people freaked out after two "hurricanes" did some damage, but a tree a hundred feet away isn't going to touch the house... nonetheless lots of tree services sold people on the "safety" of removing all their trees... which actually makes things far worse because a tree line blunts the force of the winds... last summer a bad storm, not even close to tropical storm level caused extensive wind damage to many homes in the area... almost every one I saw roof and siding damage was sitting out in the open.

The other thing is everyone wants a cookie cutter Home and Garden TV backyard... most of these home improvement shows strip yards of all but the most fashionable vegetation...

Its funny to me that people bother to put up bird feeders, but eliminate any places for them to nest... maybe they just figure the birds can rent an apartment in town.

I'd rather make the acquaintance of all the interesting creatures I come across than a trendy yard any day.

What are the symptoms of Covid? How can I tell if my pet can get Covid? Right now they seem to enjoy swimming.

Main symptons are a dry persistant cough and a temperature. I would think a goldfish would find it difficult to catch those

I think the best way to prepare fish food to eat is to put it in my aquarium. Though it does take a lot of work getting it back out of there, aka water changes. Well not too much work but more the time to get buckets filled with fresh water, the siphon and the bucket for the dirty water. I generally find out the condition of the fish food by time I do the water change is a tad crappy.

My goldfish refused to turn my lights out in my room. I don't want to get out of bed to turn them off.

Roll in iron power then go out on the lawn and get damp, then wait a couple hours.  Ta-da, almost instant orange/red/brown tan. enlightened

With the benefit of hindsight, it is now clear to me that N*Sync was way better than the Backstreet Boys.

    Live dangerously, wait for later.devil

On the serious side.  Lithium-ion batteries should not often be drained below 20% nor should they be charged to 100% and remain there trickle charging for very long.  Nor do you have to wait for the low point to recharge your battery,   Too little charge or too much extreme charge is not good for Lithium-ion batteries.  The most reasonable suggestions I've seen are to charge a phone to 95-98% and don't let it get below 15%.  breaking the rules a few times probably isn't disasterous, but when dealing with highly flamable Lithium, then wisdom should prevail.  Although I've also seen manufacturer instructions for laptop batteries to drain them to exhaustion and let the laptop autoshutdown, then recharge it to 100% to "recalibrate" the "charge meter" displayed by your laptop.  But ONLY a couple times in its lifetime.  And ONLY if your battery chargemeter seems really wonky.  If that calibration cycle for your laptop battery doesn't seem to fix the wonky battery chargemeter indicator then your battery probably needs replacement.  As usual, see the manufacturer's recommendations in their device documentation.

Disclaimer:  The above advice is just general wisdom and I'm not responsible for lithium fires in your pocket or purse.

Edited to add:  Charging a Lithium-Ion battery to 100% is not necessarily bad if you leave the device on, because it will very shortly ease away from 100%.  The problem comes when you charge to 100% and leave it charging, or charge to 100% and then turn the device off.  When stored with a completely charged battery, it tends to form little threads of metal working their way internally between the two poles (+ & -) and could eventually short out, burn, or even explode, the battery, your device and your happiness. sad

Edited to add even more scarrier information:  If you know anything about chemistry or have played around with pure metalic sodium, you know that sodium burns wicked hot, with a brilliant yellow flame.  Lithium is similar surprise but has a much prettier crimson color. yes  But the color is not the first thing you notice when it's burning in your pocket.surprise

ABBA is unquestionably great. I’m still not a fan of N*Sync, but I can at least appreciate their respective merits more.

I now got a 3 gallon tank in my room. It is empty until this fall. I wanted to use it as a quarantine tank but mum just got it to me. My goldfish is doing so much better I don't need to use it for that purpose.

Are you asking me to confirm their greatness? Because ELO should require no clarification.
