...definitely an expensive substitute in comparison.  15.95$ a fifth (750 mL) here. 70% and even 90% Isopropyl usually goes for around 1.99$ - 2.39$ for a 946 mL bottle.

Yeah, but plus side, you can drink it after you clean your fruits and veggies.

Hmmm, fruit flavored alcohol, now that's an idea that might catch on. (as he sits back and takes another sip of his apricot brandy)devil

Although I'm not so sure how celery vodka would go over.indecision

    Bloody Mary.

Bloody hell! I forgot about that.surpriseyes

Alright, how about asparagus vodka or carrot schnapps?

Most likely not as common as Bloody Mary but using the Google thingie I got close:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/17/dining/boardroom-spirits-carrot-liquor.html

I really don't know the real differences between different liquors, I just drink it.

However if the fruit, grain or vegatable can be turned into alcohol, then ... cool

I would like to taste the bacon vodka.

well most vodka potato so any root would do

I used to love a rhubarb drink the Two Dogs company used to make but sadly discontinued

apparently as they paid more tax than they liked as not classed as a brew.

...this is my favourite: Locally made here in Oregon, even has a glass stopper like an old medicine bottle. A little more "maltier" but the juniper comes though very well, makes an excellent Gin Buck (Gin, Ginger Beer and Lemon).

I really needed a haircut, and got tired of waiting till the "Stylists" are open again. I cut my own hair again. It's a good thing I prefer it simple and short!

Why wipe. Just spray it down with 85% alcohol?  I do that with most everything I bring home these days!  Fruits and veggies I do wash!  Soap and cool water!  DAMN I forgot celery!  Grrrrrrrrr

Where on earth are you getting alcohol? Literally every pharmacy or store I've seen is out of them, and has giant signs saying "Out of alcohol and peroxide".

Can you say "Everclear"?  Sure you can.  Works real good on apples and other fruit and no soapy residue.  And at 95% ethanol, it dries fairly fast.

Sadly, kind of violently allergic to ethanol. Apparently a fairly common food allergy, but in most people, it's mild enough to just ignore or get past, or even attribute to something else. The last time I tried to have a drink -- the summer after my 21st birthday, which was [VERY HEAVILY REDACTED NUMBER] years ago, afterward, the doctor said, "Maybe don't do that again unless you want to make yourself, you know, a little dead." So I don't.

I've been cutting my own hair for at least 12 years now.  1/4 inch comb on the electric razor for the head and beard.  But 1/8 inch comb on the razor for sideburns, around the ear, and the nape of the neck.  And no comb on the razor for trimming the eyebrows, & mustache and for excising the fuzz on the lower nape of neck and the scraggly hairs around the base of the neck, and chopping down the lone two-inch whispy silver hair that somehow continues to avoid detection for three months on the flange of my right ear.frown

When I was a boy I paid 50 cents to the local barber for a '50s style haircut every two weeks.  When my haircut costs grew to $20 every couple of weeks I realized something was wrong with that picture.  So, in the last 12 years, I've paid $20 twice for a new electric razor set and listened to a different drummer.yes  I'd never survive as a Karen.devil

Those haircuts in the '50s were always accompanied with a liberal application of Brylcreem, but only because everybody did it and my mother wanted me to do it.  I stopped using anything on my hair as soon as I got to college in '66.  I don't miss Brylcreem, but I hear the slick look is making a comeback.  (*Why?surprise  It looked  nasty, made a mess on furniture and vehicle windows, and attracted dirt then, and it still looks nasty, makes a mess on furniture and vehicle windows, and attracts dirt now.)  No hope for the human race.crying  I figure that if by time you are on your own, if you haven't found a way to wear your hair without gluing it into place you shouldn't be allowed to have hair.cheeky

...if hair gets too long, that's what hair ties are for.

Saw some good news, my favourite second hand store will be reopening next week Monday. and the Ross store downtown is open as well  Finally can do some "real" shopping

Also got a real good deal on an electric can opener (one of the highest highest rated ones that that does the smooth cut at the seam), at Macys for $ less than anywhere else (and 0$ shipping).  Unfortunately it wasn't available "in store" for some reason so I had to order online. Should arrive in a few days (provided it isn't stolen from the mail room).

We got some unpleasant news today. My wife is involved in the 'Ignite' Church Events, which is a Church Service and meal aimed weekly at the homeless. They have 30 odd weekly turn up on a regular basis, with another 30 or more who are regulars, just don't come every week.

Over the lockdown, they have tended to congregate in the Churchyard to drink, do drugs and spread Covid-19 amongst each other. They are regularly moved on by the Police, but the churchyard is one of their main haunts. They can be raucous and to someone who doesn't know them, they are intimidating. But, we've never seen or heard of them doing anything worse to anyone else than a bit of begging.

Last night, two thugs decided to have some fun, and attack the homeless for their own entertainment. They ran into a group of 10 swinging baseball bats and laid into anyone they could reach. The noise caused others to come running, and eventually the numbers drove the thugs off. Ambulances were called, and four were treated at the scene, and another four taken to A&E. There are currently two in hospital. A woman who was knocked unconscious has broken ribs and a ruptured kidney, and a 40 yo man who looks 65, who was hit so hard on the side of his head they don't expect him to regain the sight in his eye.
The Police arrived. This morning. That's how important they felt it was.

At the moment I don't feel very charitable towards my fellow men (and I do mean 'men'). How can any [put in your preferred expletive] person do that to another?

And we now have a seventh acquaintance die from the virus. Mark, the CEO of the borough council who was a major mover in council funding for the homeless, had cancer and was recovering nicely with his chemotherapy. Last week he went into hospital for the next round. He was particularly vulnerable because of the chemo, so the only people he came into contact with were at hospital. Anyway, he caught the virus there when he went in for his visit last Wednesday, and died this week. Just like that.

Sorry, it feels a bit bleak out today, despite the warm weather.

I do apologize, I'm using an Android tablet and it won't let me select the text to change the background.

thugs don't out of the blue just decide to do something that awful

    it was premeditated

and they bash others, their wives, children, people they don't like

these are criminals and should be fully investigated and charged because they are a contining danger to the public at large as well as being guilty of such a henious crime

We don't allow political discussions because they always lead to arguments and ill-will - which is the last thing we need in a thread about facing a common adversity. There are plenty of suitable sites for that kind of thing, if you wish to debate such topics.

Somehow I utterly fail to see any political discussion here... just a statement about something, that would be called criminal behaviour in most civilised countries of the world...

I know. There are all too many such people around. I was a little disgruntled with our police yesterday for their speed of response. However, in their defence there are 8 over the weekend covering our borough of nearly 150,000 people, and some of them were out trying to keep rubber necker's from a major cliff fall into the sea which was in the process of undermining one house & may go further in the near future. The idiots were going to the edge of an unstable fall to get a closer look. The fall happened in 2 stages, so a third is entirely possible. And potential risk to life always trumps actual and ongoing occurrence of severe injury.

Ahh well. Apparently the thugs ran off in the direction of the high street & will have been caught on the HD CCTV cameras which will enable identification if the police can be bothered. Somehow, with my past & recent experience of our local police, I think it highly unlikely that they will be bothered to even check whether the footage exists. When we had a driver hit our parked van in February and had 6 witnesses, one of whom recognised the driver and knew their name, three saw the numberplate and noted it down, the police came back to us with 'Insufficient evidence for further investigation' having failed to talk to any witnesses. They even said the numberplate was unrecognised, despite the fact we were able to get its tax & insurance status as members of the public from the national database. The effort of them doing anything in our case was too much.

I would have no problem doing that or anything worse to the thugs that terrorized the homeless (or anyone else in this manner). best way IMO to deal with thugs with bats, is have a bigger bat and know how to use it.

I was helping at a food drive last week and this one guy broke into the line in front of others, was semi violent and got rude and obnoxious with one of the volunteers (made her cry!) and I had to put him down till the police showed up. I hopefully made more than a physical impact on him when I explained to him the error of his ways.

I am very sorry you had to go through this . I would go more into my feelings on this subject but if I do my post will be removed like the rest have.   Just know if I would have witnessed such an event on the defenseless , the police coming the next day would be fine for cleaning up to what was left of the thugs.  I hope you guys can heal and recover from this tragic event

Here in the UK, well the south of the UK, it's been like summer for the last few weeks, but it is due to change tomorrow. I think summer is over and we're starting on autumn.

We picked our first Radishes last weekend, and more today. Also picked some salad leaves from several different cut & come again plants. In the next few days we'll be picking the first tender Swiss Chard leaves - I so adore Swiss Chard, it tastes like Spinach but has colour and texture too. What is amazing is that we planted all this after lockdown started.

The cherries are nearly ripe, and we will be getting raspberries in the next few weeks. We have also discovered a natural cross between raspberries and blackberries in the garden too, permitted to grow by our neglect of the last 2 years. Think we'll allow it to fruit before deciding whether to keep it.

The Michaelmas Daisies are flowering all over the top of the garden.

This is the wildest bit furthest from the house. I just mow paths through the grass, and they change position every year.

    Regards,

    Richard.
