PLEASE HELP! Can’t load 3rd party products!
Hi, please help.
So I just bought a few things from Renderosity and I can't get them to work in Daz. I have a butt morph for V4, a genitals prop, and a character morph. I know the genitals works because I was using it earlier and now I can't seem to access it anymore in Daz.
I read a quick tutorial about how to load new items/purchases. I moved all the runtime folders that came in each product's zip to the My Library folder in Documents>Daz>Studio, per the instructions. Problem is, you can't have more than one folder titled 'runtime' in my library, so I renamed them Butt.runtime, Vanadisa.runtime, etc. The first one I loaded was the genitals morph, and just used 'runtime' and I tried it in Daz and it worked great. Then when I moved the other runtime folders into My Library and renamed them, nothing worked...even the previously working genitals morphs. I even tried to rename the genitals morphs runtime folder back to just 'runtime' to see if that affected anything but its still not working.
Also, weird, is that when in Daz, I check the Content Library>Daz Studio Formats>My Library where I've found all these items, they appear there but when I click them nothing at all happens.
Can anyone make sense of any of this??
Thanks

Although I feel comfortable in unzipping, I find myself more and more in the habit of unzipping manual.
I use WinRAR, but that doesn't matter.
You have to stick to the structure as shown:
+ content
- subfolder: Runtime
-- subfolders in Runtime: Geometries, Libraries, textures etc.
than open WinRAR or WinZip (whatever) but don't extract, just drag with your mouse a subfolder from the WinRAR/Winzip window to the right location in Windows Explorer.
When you copy files across which share a directory, let them KEEP their original directory structure. It won't delete anything that is already inside the folder, it will simply add the extra content in addition to it. The zip files include a Runtime folder because the files inside need to be located in the My Library/Runtime folder.
Merge the folders and you'll find your content.
I'm sorry, I'm really new to this and I'm not following. So I've duplicated each zip folder and dragged the to Documents>Daz 3D>Studio>My Libaray . I've unzipped them all so now I have a runtime folder for the genitals morph, a 'runtime 2' folder for the character morph and a folder for the V4 butt morph with the corresponding runtime folder inside it. This is how everything unzipped. The genitals morph is now working again, but I can not find the butt morph and character morph in Daz. The only thing that appears in Daz in the Content Library>Poser Formats>My Library (which is where I find the genitals morph) is the genitals morph...
Sorry I'm still confused. This seems very convoluted though.
I’m sorry, I’m really new to this and I'm failing to understand how to properly load products bought on Renderosity, etc and find/use them in Daz. I just bought a few things from Renderosity and I can’t get them to work in Daz. I have a butt morph for V4, a genitals prop, a character morph, and some breast morphs.
So I’ve duplicated each zip folder from where I downloaded/saved them and dragged the to Documents>Daz 3D>Studio>My Libaray.. It looks like this in the My Library folder:
bigbutt copy
bigbutt copy.zip
CurvesWonderBreast_DAZ_144851 copy
CurvesWonderBreast_DAZ_144851 copy 2
CurvesWonderBreast_DAZ_144851 copy.zip
CurvesWonderBreast_Poser_144850 copy
CurvesWonderBreast_Poser_144850 copy.zip
FRAD_Vana_BGs_66458 copy.zip
FRAD_Vana_V4.2_66457 copy.zip
OMGD copy.zip
Runtime
runtime 2
VanadisaBGs
The only thing that appears in Daz in the Content Library>Poser Formats>My Library (which is where I find the genitals morph) is the genitals morph…
Can anyone make sense of any of this??
Thanks
You really have to stick to the standard folder hierarchy.
There is no point in having a Runtime 2 folder.
This is what happens:
- you click an icon you wish to load, in this example a canopener.
In the .cr2 file of the canopener, (I opened it with Wordpad to show you, it is not common practice) it says that the associated object file is to be found in: Content -> Runtime -> Geometries -> Appliances, it doesn't know about a Runtime 2.
In my case you see DAZStudio3, other people have mylibrary, doesn't matter, but from content down it has to be the same stucture.
When I unzip the folders that I downloaded it automatically makes more runtime folders.
You have nested folders. You need to merge the Runtime (and any other parallel folders) with the ones in your actual content folder. What Operating System do you use?
mac os 10.9.2
Unzip the item to a temporary folder. It might have a top level folder with the name of the item, or "Content" or "My Library" -- whatever it is, you need to drill down until you find the folders named Runtime, Data, People, etc. Take ONLY the folders at that level and merge them with the corresponding folders in your content folder (e.g. My Library). You cannot have one content folder inside another -- the Runtime and Data folders must be directly underneath your content folder, or they will not work.
Threads merged.
If on a MAC OS and you do not have the MERGE feature you do this instead..
OPEN the Rendo Runtime file..
Runtime...
..characterts
....SUCH and SUCH item
..geometries
....SUCH and SUCH
YOU must HAND move each Folder inside the Runtime folder that IS not a base folder to its proper place IN the DS Runtime folder. Here it would be the Characters>Such and Such gets moved to Runtime>Characters> and pasted Only the Such And Such gets moved. EACH part in each runtime would need done that way.
I think what you're missing out is that he's then got to update the database for the new content. I had exactly the same issues, and the new content didn't consistently appear until I actually cleared the database down (i.e. reset database), then scanned known directories for files and finally re-imported the metadata.
I didn't actually want to do the above, but I thought 'reset database' meant 'refresh database', not trash the whole damn thing!
Anyway - that worked for me, and my imported stuff (including poser format) now appears. I presume there's an easier way of picking up new contents - possibly by just doing the 'scan known directories for files'? Could someone comment please?

Scan know directories for files will add the new stuff to Default/Unassigned. But it should show up in "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats" just refreshing the folder.
I started my DAZ Studio days broke so free Items from other sites were one of the first things I ever learned. Putting the items folders in the proper place is how it is done by hand. A Merge feature solves the problem fully as a copy paste merge is all that is needed. Tip. new content will not show up most times if installed with DS open even if you do a refresh. Close DS install Open and use Content Library Tab for all content that does not have a Metadata file. If it has a Metadata file do Import Metadata on Open of DS. Done.
I realise that I'm replying to a very old thread, but I just wanted to note that there are ways of getting around the lack of merging in Mac OS X. I've been using this method for a while now, and it works like a charm. (Of course, entirely dependant on the metadata provided along with the files bought on Renderosity, this seems to be lacking at times.) The way to do it, is to use the command "ditto" which works basically as a copy command.
I've created a service using this : http://superuser.com/questions/260655/how-to-use-automator-to-give-a-gui-to-ditto
Try it out! It works really well!
