Aubrey 8 Installation Failure

I'm lucky enough to not have had much difficulty with the installation of thousands of products through DAZ, but I ran into trouble today after I purchased the Aubrey 8 figure.  I was using the Daz installer for that product as well as a few others, and Aubrey finished up with an "Installation Failed!" message.  I tried again, but it was the same.  I went back to the product page and did a manual install into the My Daz 3D Library file--dropping in the Content file from my downloads.

So now I have the figure in my Content Library (although, oddly, the icon for the figure is just a featureless mannequin), but I'd prefer to have her in my Smart Content.  I've never had to do this before, so I was wondering if there is a good link to where I can learn how to do it.  Also, anyone have any ideas on why the figure would have not properly installed from the Daz installer in the first place?

Thanks in advance.

First, when you did the manual install, did you take the folders UNDERNEATH "Content" in the zip, or did you drop the "Content" folder from the zip?  You need to move the folders underneath "Content".

To import the metadata for Aubrey 8, in Daz Studio go to the Smart Content or Content Library pane and click the Options menu (icon in the upper right corner of a triangle and 4 lines).  Choose "Content DB Maintenance", then "Re-import Metadata" and click Accept.  In a few seconds a menu will pop up.  Uncheck the "User Data" and "All Products" boxes, then scroll down to the SKU for Aubrey 8 (66723).  Check that box and click Accept.

As for why DIM failed, try it again.  If it fails again click the gear icon (settings) in the upper right of DIM and choose "Show log".  Paste the last half-dozen lines here.

  • Thanks for the quick response.

I tried dropping in the Content folder contents first (Data, People, Runtime), but when I did that, I could only find the figure's materials.  Then I tried dropping in the Content folder itself.  At least I could find all the components of the figure this time.

I tried the DIM again, but it still fails.  In the Log it says:

    WARNING: Network Error: C:/Users/Public/Documents/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/Downloads/IM00066723-01_Aubrey8.zip.{5c7abfea-ee67-82fd-fff2-b2ac2118c02f}.part :
Could not complete download, file size does not match; 157758676 != 157887669.. Temporary file removed.

I'll try your other instructions on the metadata shortly!

It looks like there was a glitch during the download -- if there are any files starting with im00066723 in the downloads folder, delete them and re-download.

Having the folder named "Content" inside your actual library folder will give you problems if you try to use the Audrey morph along with other morphs.  Is the Audrey 8 actor or morph preset working?

I've been able to load in Aubrey, and she looks fine.  Still, I'd prefer to have everything in Smart Content, so I'll still try your suggestions.  Thanks!

Still, I'd prefer to have everything in Smart Content,

You can still do this even with a manual download and install — the database files are in the /Runtime/Support/ folder in the installer, so all you need to do is copy them to the same folder in your live content location and update the database from inside DAZ|Studio. (I don't use Smart Content, so I can't say how that's done; I think it's one of the Database Management controls in the Content Library Options menu.)

  • Again, thanks to both of you for offering up good advice to me on this subject.

I imagine there is an old axiom someplace that goes, "The simplest solution is also the most unexpected", which was certainly true just a moment ago.

I had scrubbed all the Aubrey stuff out of my files in an attempt to try again to see if I could get her downloaded properly.  Unfortunately, I was getting the same logged error.  I sighed and muttered, "Ah, leave it for now.  I have renders I can be composing."  So I got back into Daz and loaded up the scene I had used to just see if I could get the Aubrey figure to work at all.  As the scene started loading, the Daz program said to me, basically, "Hey, you were messin' around with some sort of Aubrey figure a little while ago, but she doesn't seem to be here now.  You want to install her?"  To which I just nodded in mild shock and said, "Yeah, go ahead."  Well, it did, and now Aubrey 8 and all her components reside in my Smart Content with no issues at all.

Ummmm...oooookay.  Not the way I'm USED to doing it, but it's the end result that counts, I reckon.  =)
