How do you get a character to hold a guitar in place during an animation?

I have a scenes that I am trying to create where a a character is playing a guitar. Of course as usual I converted the motion from MMD. IK works a lot different in MMD and a motion file  is applied to the guitar as well in that platform.

I am pretty sure that nulls could be parented to the guitar  where the hands would go, then an IK chain for each arm could then be parented to the nulls during the animation. Sould the body of the guitar be parented to the hip? The lefthand does move up and down the neck of the guitar with the imported motion. I wonder if MCasual has a script for this.

I'll be watching this thread closely, because I'm doing an animation project where I'm having to deal with the same thing. At least my character is sitting on a stool, but I have to move the left hand on the neck and move the right hand in a picking motion.

BTW, as a longtime performing musician, I recommend strongly that you get a strap put on that guitar. That creates its own issues, but it is effectively impossible to stand and hold a guitar and play it without a strap. mCasual does have a guitar strap, here, complete with bones to help with posing: https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts2/mcjstrap

Thanks for the reply, I wonder if DForce could use the strap to hold the guitar in place and allow for left and right movement. Still the guitar would have to collide with the characters's body. I think IK chains would handle moving the hand up and down the neck of the guitar, but I'm not 100 percent sure how to set up the simulation.

Mavante, do you have VWD? I think  select the strap as cloth and nailing the guitar strap to the collision obj (the guitar) would create the correct physics for the the way the guitar hangs, but then it would need to adjusted so you could apply IK to the hands. I think.............
