Optronic Computer Core

I seem to be able to see this on the Buddha sales page. I thought I bought it yesterday with a Platinum+ coupon. However it is now 'Free' but any attempt to access it gets an 'Ooops'.

There's no record of the purchase. So perhaps I am going mad. But I can see it on the page, even if I can't access it, free or otherwise.

My apologies: I should have looked in the Sales thread. Mod: please delete or ridicule.

...it looks like it has been removed as when I click on it on the Aspire for Enlightenment sale page, I get the dreaded 404 error.

I wondered what happened to this. I was thinking of buying it, not really sure if I wanted it enough. But now I can't find it.

Yes, I got that result: made me smile. I knew there had to be something under there.

This product is clearly inspired by Mother's lair in the movie Alien.  I suspect someone's lawyers have got upset.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

When searching for a product with more than one word in the name you should use double quotes, like "Optronic Computer Core" (which currently returns nothing).  Otherwise it looks like search uses AND or maybe OR (plus some additional algorithms).  And the name must be exact to return the product, btw.

No result is better than a bad result, I'd say.

I had a distinct feeling when I first saw it that it would not be available long. It was very well done too, but Disney is the last company that I would want to deal with...lol.

is a pity they wait for takedown notices instead of posting previews in their forums and allowing posters to point out similarities to stuff.

and worse remove concerned posts pointing stuff out while others less nice presumably snitch to the person who own the intellectual property insteadangry

I would never do the latter but get reprimanded for the former often.

If you have a concern, email daz or enter a ticket. They don't monitor the forums.

Also, previewing content on the forums is a great way for less reputable people to bang out a rough copy and load it to other sites.

as if those same types wouldn't do the same with the DAZ releases,

I actually like PA's engaging with us on upcoming stuff in the forum and feel they are more reputable than some who never post here and just release random previously unseen things

you being one I find trustworthy for that reason heart

there is another very popular one who never has posted on the forum I won't buy anything from after a product was removed that was identical to another person's Unity 3D asset

I won't render the few things I do own by them either anymore in case its someone elses IP

Sure, they'll do it with releases, but if someone can rush out a copy before the Daz release, that can do a lot of damage to sales. Plus the perception of the second product being the copy.

I've seen a lot of Nostromo-inspired modeling in products on this site. Some of it is really well done! I didn't even see the optronic computer before it got pulled. I've seen some interesting props on other sites, too. Without official word, it's hard to say why any particular item gets pulled. As for previews, I could be wrong, but I think PAs are allowed to do that for their own products. I've seen announcements about upcoming products in the PA Commercial Products forum.

I think all of yesterday releases were DO. And i don't know if PA usually shows WIP when it will be a DO from the start.

Now, do we know it was because of IP problem? I have seen Captain America in here.

And if it was that, then they could just edit the item to make it have the chance of it being a "parody". Like call the item "Mimi" and add a prop of a funny alien.

in here maybe.. but Captain America in the Store and Disney will come knocking.

they tend to be *fast* on the draw and won't take "oh but I changed this detail" as an excuse for ripping off their IP. they do allow parody.. but not parody as an excuse to get round stealing the IP. there is a difference...

Most times, when I get that get feeling, I know it won't last long. This one triggered me hard and I knew I needed to scoop it, but it's really out of place in the movie design and I think it would be in the library too.

There's no other parts of anything that match that design. I thought about flipping it, maybe with something different in the middle or messing with all those little lights somehow for kit-bashing, but....

I just didn't pull the trigger.

    Some regrets now. sad

Man, I REALLY liked the Optronic Compputer Core model and had put in my cart straight away, but decided to wait until the next day before pushing the button.  I wonder what would have happened if I had purchased it and downloaded it - would it have been forcibly removed from my library???

Of note: Another product that had posted up, went into my cart, and then disappeared before I oculd finalize the transaction was The Sienna Bundle and it turned out that the beauty products on the desk had labels too similar to actual brands and got pulled for that until it could be changed. Ironically all I really wanted from the set was the Tree Lamp and picture framed tree limbs.  So, eh, these things happen.

Closing this as it is built on pure speculation.
