latest dim update removed daz studio

April 30 update - so yeah just like says in title, bought stuff today started up dim and there was updates for studio both public and beta, photoshop bridge and goz. Did the downloadsthen went to play with new content except could not locate the studio icons. Went into my all apps section and studio wasn't under daz, dim, hexagon and carrara still was though. Restarted comp still not appearing so started up dim had to reinstall both public and beta studio and repair menu showed it's back now. On a side note like many my main hard drive is way too small for studio and its contents so I have it on one of my larger drives, now with goz and photoshop bridge everytime I go to install update the new version it keeps looping back to install or read to install does this happen to anyone else?

additional I've got back both public and beta studio back up and everything seems to be there they are 4.12.1.117 pro edition 64 bit. ButI opened up dim and in the ready to download is studio again guessing public version

Windows? If you're getting a popup for UAC, make sure to allow the DIM Helper  to make changes to your computer.

  • yes I do allow it to do what it wants

    I've the same issue.

Workaround for me was disabling "Install after Download" and trigger the install in the "Ready to install" tab manually.

Unfortunally, after that, DAZ studio appears again in the "Ready to Download" tab, but it's at least again installed for me.

Since there are some reported issues with the DS 4.12 update, I decided to take the safe route and disable install after download to perform the update. I had 4 updates - DS 4.12, GoZ, photoshop, and measure metrics. I started with the DS 4.12 update.

During the DS 4.12 update, a visual C++ install/update was performed and it closed all my open applications except Outlook and Firefox. It then partially restarted Windows Explorer so that only my desktop background showed; all my desktop icons and my task bar and system tray disappeared. The install completed and I proceeded to install the two bridges and measure metrics. I then did a cold reboot on my PC (had to ctrl-alt-del to get to the screen where I could shut down). Everything came up normal and DIM shows that DS 4.12 is installed.

So, aside from the weirdness after the visual C++ install/update happened, everything seems to be OK for me.

I have DS installed in the C drive default location and I still keeps reappearing in the 'Products' section of DIM after I installed it from the 'Products Update' section.

I had problems with the last 2 updates, 115 and 117.  They worked for me after restarting my computer.

This happened to me as well. Had the beta, now I don't. Just the release version.

In my case, it nuked my 4.11 install.  I only have the beta now. frown  I mean, it's fine, since that's all I use, but, you know, kind of fudged up.

..bugger another update?  Now I'll have to reset all my parameters and fix the .ini issue...again.  Wish we could reject these updates and keep using the older version..

Sounds like it has some serious bugs as well.  So much for downloading any of the things I just bought until this is fixed.

I'm not seeing a DIM update, but even if there was if you had to do all that it would indicate an issue on your system.

...as I mentioned everything else I have runs and updates just fine, only the DIM has the issue of defaulting to "factory" standards and installing the ini in the wrong place. Also, only the DIM auto updates with no way to defer or say "no".all other software and utilities query whether I want the update or not.. Why can't the DIM do the same?

Just a related note: if you accidently have DS running when you update it, DIM will remove the DS icon but not update the installation, and you won't get any error message.  Trying to uninstall the existing installation with DIM won't work (but it may be necessary for the following to work, as I did that):  close DIM, then delete the existing DS installation completely, then open DIM again where the DS update should be listed on the Install tab, ready for installation.

It asks me whether to update or work offline.

Well, for my part anyway, I definitely did not have DS open when I updated and yet, my beta install is gone and I'm left with just the public release version. The folder for the beta remains, but the executable is gone. I'll get around to reinstalling it later. I save all the DIM installation files.

OK, I'm confused now - from the subject it sounded as if the latest DIM update removed DS (which did sound strange to me), therefore my "related" note.  But if it happened when updating DS, the reason might be what I talked about  - at least for some.  Also note that sometimes DS may keep running in the background after you shut it down (or after it has crashed), I imagine that may cause the same problem.

I've just updated both the general DS release and the beta myself, and no problems here, both installed fine.

I'm not that upset about it ;). I had updated a few days ago when every time I opened DIM it wanted me to update the beta for about three days in a row. Maybe there was some kind of snaffu then that they've fixed in the meantime. Whatever caused it, I'll fix it eventually ;).

...that is different than software inquiring if you want to "update now".  I've been able to run programmes and utilities without updating them and they function as always.  Crikey I still run PSP 4. which prompts me to update to the latest and greatest every time I close it down.

Those applications don't need to connect to a remote server the way DIM does. For DIM to work on-line both the Daz side and the DIM side need to be working with the same procedure - I'm pretty sure we have been over this before.

I'm having the same issue. I guess I should just ignore it?

well like said I usually just click intall and or update on any any all content dim has listed which included both versions of studio, which when done studio completely disappeared, restarted computer still nothing so started dim again and studio was there to download again which I did and both reappeared. Public was ok but had a look at beta and was missing to of content hardly anything showing so back to dim unistalled beta via that then redownload install seem ok again, but there is still saying in dim studio public version still to be downloaded not updated but the full version so think just ignore that it's not a newer version but same one installed
