Abandoning DIM again

I've been at this for 20 years. For many years I installed everything from scratch. From time to time I decided to try DIM, and Smart Content. But recent problems with PostgreSQL and Mac (Catalina) have pushed me past endurance. What use are these assets if they don't work properly. I read in a recent thread how so many people tried various fixes in an effort to get things to work properly. I also read that the PostgreSQL problem is Apple's fault.

I use DAZ Studio and DAZ3d because I want to Make Art. DAZ should make their products work properly. Not me.

If it makes you feel better, my main renderring system is isolated from the internet.  I actually do use DIM to do the offline installs of Daz3D store products (check the work offline box every time), but I download all of the product packs manually for my orders, then drag the relevant folders into the relevant Install Manager folder.

Since the DIM on that system hasn't talked to Daz HQ in close to a year and a half now, it essentially relies on what's in it's Database only, i.e. the index files it creates when it installs stutff.  Of course, I have to be diligent about making sure I download everything in my orders, but one nice side benefit is that I can place the templates in a separate folder when they are provided as part of the product downloads.  AFAIK DIM doesn't bother with those, unless something has changed recently.

Don't know if that would help Mac users much though, as I'm using Windows, and if you like doing online installs then my methodology won't be of interest to you.  But yeah, since I stopped connecting to the internet with my rendering system, yeah DIM has been working like a champ in offline mode.  So I'd guess that it's the 'login' and/or 'store database purchases search' process that eventually trips it up for some people.  That and I'm using an older version of DIM at this point no doubt.

Thanks for your reply. I see the Internet as an asset, not something to be avoided.

I spent yesterday trying to fool DIM into installing things my way. I got a terrible mess. I spent a few hours this morning putting everything back the way it was before. I looked at some of my recent ourchases. There are so many files. For example, some of Michael 4's supporting files are so extensive that it's torture to consider a manual install. So at this point, I'm back to using DIM, and cursing because DAZ could have done a much better job.

I never accepted DIM any more than I accepted DAZ Connect. Indeed, I was *so* grateful when DAZ finally stopped packing every bit of content in a Bitrock installer.

It may disqualify me from ever trying a beta version, but unless something is available as a manual download, I'm not touching it.

Seconded. I'm in charge of this installation of DAZ|Studio, not the Content Database or DIM.
