@ Wendy there is a number of free options

to view them try apple quick time player.

to convert them to AVI files use the Xilisoft Video Converter not free though

and you can convert them using document link with google drive

  • @WendyLuvsCatz, about the files, they are prores files that were (going by name) probably created by a RED Dragon camera. Prores is a codec from apple. So Win7 is a bit of a problem. My editing system is also win7 and there was a reason why I didn't want to install quicktime on my machine (have forgotten what my reason was, maybe it had to do with the crappy implementation of h.264 from apple). So premiere (cs6) doesn't like the file either on my machine. So yeah, we have to find a converter.

yes Win7 plays everything for me and I have Quicktime there

it's 10 that is finicky and my codec packs won't work

Is there a time frame on this? Because if anyone is actually going to use Daz Iray to render over 3800 frames of animation, that's a very loooooooooooooong process. You would need a bankroll like Elon's to afford a machine that is capable of doing that many renders in a reasonable time! LOL.

This is project that is far better suited to a program with significantly faster rendering...like Unreal or Unity.

So while this might get Daz a bit of exposure, I believe they focused on the worst possible thing, animation. Its going to be a serious buzzkill for Grimes' fans who just discovered Daz Studio only to find it would take them months to render any meaningful animation. So this could totally backfire in Daz's face. Thus the only videos we see getting posted are the quick and easy things.

You really need a fast rendering engine designed for animation if you truly wish to pursue this. Iray, in its current state, is not it.

I just got it working now I had to download and install quicktime player and used this hack to get it to work right in my windows 10 laptop. properly because its a stupid HP .  but that seem to fixed it for me.  I did have to point Premiere cs6  to quicktime folder though . Thankful its like Flash FLA files slowly becoming obsolete

    well probably not iray TBH

it really depends what you want to do, I don't see the point in recreating what was already done

I don't render full scenes anyway, I composite png series in Hitfilm which this did too

So this song. I listened to it several times.  It's a nice tune.  I like Grimes new album, too.  But a pregnant woman singing about offing herself?  Kind of, uh, grim, no?

She's supposed to be about dark... Can't think of very many things darker than that as a concept without going to war.

If anybody is interested, these .mov files play well in PotPlayer which is also free. 64 and 32 bit versions available.

    {for W10}

.My guess is they want to see people use their creative juices to come up with some original video demos. think outside the box.

This has to be the most hysterical (and relevant) version I've seen so far...

  • Big Thank You Grimes (Claire) and DAZ for making the content for this project available to use and free! I'm looking foward to experimenting with it and trying out some things that  I've never done before. I have everything downloaded. Now... to just schedule this in with the CG projects I already have going. Here's hoping I can produce something I'm willing to share. I plan on mixing in some 3D models I created in the past, into this project. Trying to get my skills back up to snuff after a long  illness (not related to the current virus) and this should help. Thanks again. smiley

    You actually only need

    a) from Grimes shared downloads: the Cover Art, the Audio Files, and the DocX with the lyrics. The other files are apparently 4K and 1K uncompressed (or nearly so) MOV files (all 6 MOV zip files (2 Dragon Color, 2 Log Files, 1 Dragon Color Snippets, 1 Log Files Snippets) total about about 50 GB) and while interesting aren't needed to make the composited music video. You can watch the green screen video on YouTube.

    b) from DAZ 3D: the Shot03_CGBG and the Grimes Package. You don't even need the DAZ 3D freebies but they are free regular products & nice. You could use any DAZ or non-DAZ products you like to composite with the green screen PNG files supplied (the Set03_CBGV and Grimes Package). The DAZ 3D Grimes bundle does include helpful key framing aids though regardless of with DAZ or other product you use so it's best to get it.

Now if you make a 4K composited video it will take a while to upload itself. If I do this at all I will probably stick to 1280x720p so as to finish this month seeing as I CPU render (162 seconds x 24 frames per second = 3888 total CPU rendered frames)

For compositing you probably want Blender or Hitfilm Express unless you already own Adobe Premiere.

Thanks for clarification but I think I won't be able to do much. This was a good opportunity to gain some views if I had done something a bit earlier. It's already 18th and the more time I take, the less exposure I will get. I don't think my hardware and internet will let me do something good anyway. I hope in future some other music artists also share some green screens and stuff like her but less suicidal lyrics. That music was catchy though.

You could always just do the exercise privately as a learning exercise and then be done with it the media and delete it. You don't have to help expose their lyrics and work with your work if it makes you uncomfortable even if your contribution and others of others to the music videos' views are deemed negliable. That's the choices made.

No no. I am fine with the music. Who knows what lyrist had in mind but I won't be the judge rather just a harmless opinion. I am just not fully equipped to render a video but if I had capable hardware, knowledge, and internet I wouldn't shy away. Unreal is a great choice and Quixel's assets may be helpful here but I am lacking in that too. I will probably do my own original videos when I am capable of it in the future.

Anyway thanks to Daz for freebies. I really wanted most of the stuff given in that free package.

  • I actually the lyrics rather illuminating as they fit in very well with some research I was doing. Rather mammoth task but wish me well I'll try to get the 2 together somehow. Golly if I had the time and  people power and resources and all who knows what ... would make a good leadin and out for an epic movie series that would span the entire history of life on Earth!
And speaking of all that research ... I sincerely hope that all of her family and friends put her on a suicide watch for a solid 8 days prior to and after having her baby. Seriously.

Thank you to Grimes and Daz3D for all of this delightful material.

The lyrics are really strange to me. If this had been a different time in my life, I don't think I could have finished the song.

Anyway, I rather like this one. It looks pretty darn professional.

Its one of the few with actual 3D renderings, but alas, not with Daz Iray, but C4D. I've seen a few with Unreal/Unity. I haven't seen any videos that mention Daz or Iray yet. I'm sure there must be some out there. Somewhere. If anybody finds one, I'd like to see it.

This one is not really a video, but a remix, and kind of...cool? Didn't see that one coming.

I did find one that used what I recognised as DAZ renders as backgrounds from someone on Deviantart

png series on a plane in Carrara shader looped in diffuse, bump and glow, casts a shorter shadow though than the 3D meshes
