There won't be any danger of content violations for this, as this is a project promoted by the artist.
Also: Free Stuff!
On youtube she already has 300+ and counting videos done already. Good luck to her *chuckles*
I'm intrigued, but... can anyone translate the items listed in the Grimes Art Bundle promo page as being "Free From Grimes" into the downloads listed in the small text file of instructions (which is the only thing that downloads when you click the button)? DAZ says "Green Screen Footage" and "Audio Stems", Grimes says "Dragon Colors" and "Log Files". They don't match, and I have no idea what's which is whosis.
It doesn't help that the instructions essentially says "press the Make Art button"...
her stuff is on her video with some instructions

from what I gather you can use it other ways, some people done stuff like Animal Crossing game on a TV consol, Minecraft you name it
I never heard of Grimes & listened to the music video expecting to hate it but wound up liking the sound of her voice, the music, and the production of the music. Her voice and the music was autotuned but in a smart ethereal way, not the usual autotune. I'm not a fan of some of the lyrics in that song, lol, sometimes it pays not to know what people are saying. I'll try to remember that. I might try to make a Grimes alterna-video but that's like 50GB data, even if I were knowledgeable and good at that, which I ain't, I'd doubt my computer's ability to process and merge that much data with any simple animation I might muster. Like that I have Willow Creek, Aslan 1 Iray, Space Living Room and the Taj Mahal looking set as freebies in any event and I will check out other songs from Grimes.
I'm 50 years old and learn new features on the programs I use every day. Give it a shot. :)
Pretty cool... like the sword and the mechano wing rig... interesting idea. but now I need to learn video editing because I can't unsee the garment care tag that shows up on her shawl around 2:00...
And I turned 60 in January and I think my middle name is LearnNewthings. That old adage about teaching old dogs is a crock. It's all in your attitude. You just need to want to change and of course find things that interest you
But I have to admit the breaking of the "give a shit" meter at 50 is true
Great advice! I'm in my mid 60's and learn new software continually. Not only do I learn new software, but I turn around and teach the use of the software and underlying concepts to people 18-50 years old. IMHO at 40 you're way to young to think you can't learn new software (or anything new for that matter). Give it a shot, you just might be surprised at what you can do.
The last part I still haven't fully embraced, but I do understand it much better
So I watched a few of the 'You'll Miss Me' videos on Youtube. None of them really wowed me. A number of them were simply superimposing Grimes' video over footage from games, movies, etc. which was kind of cool, but not the same as 'from scratch'.
There are a lot of videos uploaded for the song though, so I certainly didn't watch all of them. Looking at the two 9 second snippets that the Daz team posted, I'm definitely thinking that if someone here was so inclined, that they could make something that's really cool. Just don't feel obligated to use the 'source' footage in the foreground for the entirety of the video, as that gets boring IMHO. Could use some MTV style editing and all that... although not too crazy as personally I hate it when videos feel the need to change the images every other second...
It does seem to be a good way for Grimes to attract more interest in her music, based on the number of uploads so far. I don't think Youtube is going to have much of an issue letting people around here upload stuff, based on the number of videos uploaded for the song already...
So yeah, definitely wondering if anyone here will actually take a crack at this, and if so, looking forward to see what they come up with!
I am definitely technically able to do a full music video at high quality but it would also take me a month. So Im personally passing on this one. But this is a good initiative and it is nice to see Daz and Grimes finding each other. So hoping this will be succesful for both parties and would welcome further initiatives like this. How bout a build 3D Grimes in 30 hours contest? I could win something like that hahaha.
Rather than Grimes and Daz finding eachother, this seems more like Daz bandwagoning onto Grimes's thing as a way to boost its profile - not that i have any objection to that at all, as clearly this was an open invitation for any platform, including Daz, to be involved.
Edit: i just read that apparently grimes has employed Daz for previous projects, so guess my comment above is a mischaracterisation but just going to leave it there for posterity
That's not instructions, that's the same text from the tiny file the DAZ page says is "The Grimes Download".
If things are going this far over my head and I can't understand the terms used, then the whole thing's probably intended for people who already do animation at a pretty high level. Which isn't me. I think I'll give this a pass.
Is After Effects required or will another video editor do? All I have is Pinnacle Studio, and uh, whatever I can get for free.
The image series in each folder of the art work folder download is in PNG format and is a blank back ground layer so you will need to render the back grounds and animate any fill ins so any film editor that can load a folder full of png's and process them into a AVI or MP4 will work. Hitfilm express is free and Adobe premiere elements is $99 those both works well after effect would work but not necessary . the audio or music file comes in .WAV and is 978megs so your film editor will need to work with wav audio files as well.
I converted the music file to MP3 and reduced it to 3.7 megs..lol
I am more surprised the MikuMikuDance crowd are not onto it already
Could you give me that converted music file? I can not download big files.
damn, I also can't download 4k greenscreen. it will take me days.
meh tried
Chrome froze up my computer for a couple hours then the downloads failed
not exactly a great recommendation for that WET transfer
You actually only need
a) from Grimes shared downloads: the Cover Art, the Audio Files, and the DocX with the lyrics. The other files are apparently 4K and 1K uncompressed (or nearly so) MOV files (all 6 MOV zip files (2 Dragon Color, 2 Log Files, 1 Dragon Color Snippets, 1 Log Files Snippets) total about about 50 GB) and while interesting aren't needed to make the composited music video. You can watch the green screen video on YouTube.
b) from DAZ 3D: the Shot03_CGBG and the Grimes Package. You don't even need the DAZ 3D freebies but they are free regular products & nice. You could use any DAZ or non-DAZ products you like to composite with the green screen PNG files supplied (the Set03_CBGV and Grimes Package). The DAZ 3D Grimes bundle does include helpful key framing aids though regardless of with DAZ or other product you use so it's best to get it.
Now if you make a 4K composited video it will take a while to upload itself. If I do this at all I will probably stick to 1280x720p so as to finish this month seeing as I CPU render (162 seconds x 24 frames per second = 3888 total CPU rendered frames)
For compositing you probably want Blender or Hitfilm Express unless you already own Adobe Premiere.
https://www.blender.org/
https://fxhome.com/hitfilm-express/pwyw
the license says i can not redistribute any of the files & I was able to reduce the .wav file as well down to 24 megs with audacity free open source audio editor https://www.audacityteam.org/
They offer 2 options 4k or 1080p. The 1080p demo zip files are 4.5 gigs large & 7.9gigs for the 4k. But you don't need the green screen or demo files unless you want to use them as incorporated as part of the video demo. the png's image series are already processed and you can drop and drag each folder into a video editor for composting with back grounds made with the daz assets. or if your really creative put them into something that was not included in the kit like use a HDRi and have her walking in or threw the clouds. or something like that instead There are 5 art folders, each of them have about 225 pngs that will need to be composted into video format so they can be edited. making up only 1 minute 24 seconds of video of the 2minute 47 seconds of the song . So you will need to added 1 minute 22 seconds of your own renders to fill in the gaps in the film demo. .My guess is they want to see people use their creative juices to come up with some original video demos. think outside the box. I looked these files over closely and should be easily used by anyone that have any basic video editing skills and when i put the png's in my video editor they are set up to run at 30 key frames per second .
good luck
WeTransfer is highly reliable for large files, problem would sooner be a browser caching issue.
In the store I see the free bundle and also the stuff that's inside the bundle, separated from that.
What should I do? Take the bundle or the separated products?
why not take them all and give it a whirl
Because I'll get same stuff twice...
Better don't mess with the library.
Dup;licate products will not show twice in DIM/Connect, or indeed in the Product Library here.
I downloaded the grim files and still got the daz files even though i already owned them i put the bundle in my shopping cart to see if there were anything updated or missing from what I already had of the content offered. downloading the files didn't mess up anything in my daz content drives & and the stuff i did install just over wrote the older version of the files i already owned bring them up to date for iray
I'd try putting the stuff that's NOT in the free bundle but is in the other bundle into your cart and see what the price is. If you already have a few of those items, that should help reduce the cost. Then decide how badly you want those remaining items...
And of course, grab the free bundle!
I downloaded the smallest mov files in the snippets and Windows 10 media player cannot play them
I probably can find another program that will,
Handbrake can probably "fix" them, not tried VLC yet
my Win7 machine had all the codecs and everything worked
this one is lacking somewhat in spite of having K-lite pack installed
it seems to not add them to all my softwares like my Win7 I am constantly juggling softwares
