prop parenting (almost) easily.

Hello everyone. I'm not sure if this is already posted or if it 's the right place to post it but it's a little trick that i discovered and found very useful . when i load a prop in a scene and the prop is placed at position zero. i struggled to parent the prop to a body part . so i found that creating a new camera then center the camera towards the prop with the square frame , then parent the prop to tjis camera when i move the camera the prop moves with it. always with the same famera i search the body part in scene tab , select it then centre it with the square frame, the camera now shows the body part with the prop near it . i just have to manually adjust it and parent the prop to the body part . i just wanted to share my toughts . sorry if it s already known but i never found a better answer in the forum so please accept my contribution . cheers

You can also turn Parent in Place off (check box in the Change Parent dialogue, or it's a checkable entry in th Scene pane option menu - the lined button in the top corner, or rght-click the tab) and the prop's origin will align with the parent node's origin..

A trick I use to parent an object in the scene pane is to select the object, then locate the body part of the parent (eg a hand), right click and drag the mouse horizontally slightly and the previous selected object will be parented correctly.

I know you can also achieve this with drag and drop in the scene pane, but I find this method easier in more complex scenes with a lot of items in the scene pane.

It's too bad the code couldn't be updated to

    1. Select where you want the prop to load (like the hand of a figure)

    2. Drag and drop the prop in the scene and it will load right there

    3. Using the translation dials position the prop where it needs to be like a a spear in the hand or something like that.

  • Ohh Thank you all for these useful tricks !!!
