I Want to Create High-Heel Footwear

I have three pairs of high-heel shoes for G3F.  I want to learn how to create more.  There's just one tiny little problem:  I don't know the first thing about modeling, or texturing.

My long-term goal is to become a PA who specializes in high-heel footwear designed exclusively for DAZ Studio 4.9+.

I'm looking for help getting started with the basics.  My first two questions are:

What's a good modeler for newbies?

Should I buy a drawing tablet?

LOL, yeah I can see how that might be a problem. Keep in mind that the modeling is the easy part, at least for me, the rigging is the PITA!

As for modeling, give Blender a try. The UI is a pain, but it is a free powerful app and can do heels with no problem, but then it is up to the modeler not the app.

best of luck to you, I am always looking for more quality heels!!!

    Then I'll start with Blender.

    Thanks!  :)

Incidently, Blender v2.77a was released today.  I just installed it.

While you're at it, you might want to consider flats for adventure girls. I've read many a complaint about the best outfit with the dreaded high heels. Imagine a gal running through a forest in stilettos, or a how long do you think the heels will last in a martial arts fight? There are people who will buy an outfit just because it has flats or low heels. It's a common gripe. Just think about a mixture of heel heights.

I have been waiting patiently for new high heels for G2F. Something along the lines of dx30's Sandals, Sandals2, Wrap sandals, Pumps and Open toe pumps. I'm not too big on platforms. More of the petite types. Then G3F came along so it looks like anything new for G2F isn't going to happen. Have not seen anything new in the G3F world either along those lines. I've been thinking about learning to create some myself, but like you I have no clue where to begin....nor the time to learn how. if you happen to things going with specializing, I hope you consider the types I mentioned, even if just for G3F, but G2F compatible would be a bonus, and you would have a dedicated customer here.

    Nooooo!

Or perhaps better yet, offer both.  I'd wager heels sell more.

I've already suspended disbelief in the fantasy setting with elves, orcs, trolls, dragons, wizards and sexy outfits.  At that point, may as well keep the heels.  laugh

If it were realistic fantasy, female warriors would be very rare if at all, and if there were any you wouldn't see much skin at all.

LOL, I hear you! It's funny, if you look at the game TERA, nearly all the models in the game are high fantasy types with skimpy, sexy armor and high heels, probably one of the reasons I love that game, LOL.

It's too bad no one has come up with a quality shoe only autofit conversion option, so many heels from V4 that I would love to have on GF3

I would pay 50 bucks for this without blinking an eye, seriously. I've got a closet full of digital shoes (big enough to make Marcos squeel like a schoool girl) but its so frustrating to try to fit to anything but who they are made for.

Me too.  I started using V4 with Poser, and then I've recently jumped to Genesis 3 with Daz Studio.  I have enough V4 heels I would jump on a converter for 50 bucks as well.

I have combined many shoes in a render to make a specific heel totally different from the ones sold. Mainly for G2F heels and G8F. I use one shoe on the figure for the heel. Another shoe for the toe straps and another for the ankle straps. I just opacity out the parts I dont want visible on each shoe to make one style of heel. It sometimes requires some Photoshop editing after the render, but the results can be pretty cool. Still would like to now how to create more styles into one shoe for the figures.

...one of those people here though unfortunately high and spike heels still tend to be more common.  Every time I set up a scene for my younger or action oriented G3F characters, I have to go off searching around for more "reasonable" footwear that fits in with the clothing style.  The pickings are pretty slim.

I wish I was better at modelling and rigging as I'd create more low heel footwear that isn't just sandals or sport shoes.

Good luck and congrats on finding your niche. Shoes are similar to sunglasses. Trends change. A niche is good but no shoe designer would just focus on a heel trend. Nothing is worse than walking on sand in heels and unless you are Darcy on Ninety Day Fiancee, trekking around the planet, and playing sports is tough in heels. What happens when heels are out and platforms are in? Look at fashion cycles.

Just an FYI: Loafers and platforms are making a comeback in 2020.

Haha, that was the primary reason I couldn't even bring myself to get past the character creation with that game. I enjoy playing LoTRO and ESO where you get full armor and with LoTRO the female armor models are the same as the male armor for the most part, especially with higher level gear.

I wish outfit makers would give people the option and make both. So many gorgeous sets are armor...but the heels. I get that's what the majority expects and wants to see with fantasy gear, but there are plenty of my peeps out there who go against the grain. I'd gladly pay a few extra bucks to have the option.

Same here. I've actually bought entire clothing sets only because of the shoes to use them for kitbash purposes.

Female soldiers are not as rare as you might think; they tended to disguise the fact they were female, so yeh, excessive skin would be an issue.
