Lights in the Victorian Parlor

Anyone else think there is not enough light in this thing? It has those little lights on the wall - still not bright even after adjusting them so I made some ghost lights to go with it.

That's pretty much what they had back then for lighting. Windows, gas & oil lamps & candles, not to mention a lot of dark, varnished wood.
I think the product shots used that to their advantage by using reflections and hard light from the off-camera window & then the frosted window for fill.
It does indeed feel a bit dark. I made a few renders there, and the attached image was my final one, with some light coming from outside, through a window. I was thinking about adding a ceiling chandolier or something, but it just didn't look right.
Adjust the Tone Mapping in Render Settings - the exposure value, or the indivdual ISO/f-stop/shutter speed values.
Thank you
I grew up in and around Victorian houses, some still with candles and oil lamps for use in times of no electricity. They were dark. Dark wood trim, dark furniture, heavy window drapes, dark wood floors, dark patterned carpets, walls filled with darkened old portraits and paintings in dark frames, gray dirty windows, dark, dark, dark. Just the way I keep my little apartment now. Including the "Victorian clutter" of too much furniture in too small a room, and bazillions of interesting little display items on every flat surface available
I should open up as a museum and charge to conduct guided tours describing the interesting aspects of all the items in my little museum.
Heaven help the wandering visitor who approaches my door and gets snagged into a twenty minute tour of the 150 square feet of my living room.
