Hello!
The amazing structure in this product: https://www.daz3d.com/69-hdris--movie-maker-iray--courtyard-day is it included or not? I cannot seem to make that out, reading the description only, but something hints at this only being cameras sold here. And if so, where to find this prop?

Its a selection of HDRI's so the courtyard is very likely real not a 3d prop.
The Courtyard is the HDRI and gives the background. Dreamlight have used that in a few of there Movie Maker products. I'm not sure if it is a prop that is available.
Its only $349.00 dollars at Turbosquid https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-model-courtyard-cloyster/1054847
Plus you need 3D studio Max, though there is a conversion option
I wonder how many polys are in it? Could DAZ Studio handle the load? Would it fit into my 8GB Nvidia 1080?
Cheers,
Alex.
You should check with them, first, if they'll even convert it. I purchased a fairly pricy model from them that was 3DS Max only and they declined the transfer because included was the obj model. According to them it was compatible enough, although it had no textures I could use. I may have been able to return it, I don't know, just chalked it up to lessons learned.
If your considering a purchase as such, it wouldn't hurt to send them a note about if they'd convert or not, first...
Also... to answer your question... your card can hold a crap-load if polys. You'd have to check the size of the texture files to determine if it would fit on your card.
DAZ won't have problems, though. I often load props with 1M polys, and it slows down viewport, but will render fine.
The description says the model of the structure is 7 million polygons. If you buy the actual model for $349, I guess you're only paying .00004¢ per square polygon... Assuming it's made with squares.
I can't help thinking there are models by Jack Tomalin, Stonemason and Faveral which while different styles look as good as that and considerably cheaper.
Models such as the Platau, Invetero and Trinity Atrium
Does the promo render at turbosquid even have proper materials applied? The promo imgs look particularly dull given how detailed this model is. But of course, if it shall only demonstrate the model itself without materials distracting it then yeah it looks pretty good.
There's me thinking I can just up my price to $174.95 and still be cheaper :D
you could but I have the slight impression you would still sell less, but you could try offereing stuff on turbosquid for sure, then I would miss you
As it is optimized for Vray 3.2 it is definitely older. It may have been a decent price for Max users, when it was released, but today it is way too expensive for my taste.
I would go with Faveral or Stonemason as well.
and I'm guessing we don't have to do uv's anymore either?...sweet,life just got easier :)
Please don't scare me like that
@Stonemason , @Jack Tomalin
Not funny (well maybe a little).
There are some truly amazing environments for 3ds for sale in various marketplaces. This example of the Courtyard is pretty lame in comparison to some of the top tier stuff you see on e.g., cgtrader and turbosquid. Not to say that there aren't amazing ones for sale on Daz store either - Roguey and Stonemason stuff comes to mind.
