PostgreSQL problem after DB Mantenance
After a reset and the reinport of the database DAZ Studio decided to stop working asking for connection to a valid PostgreSQL database. I tried everything I know about the recovery and I followed the indications reported in the link too: https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/207812393-PostgreSQL-Connection-Error-and-No-Smart-Content
Apparently there is no way to have the smart content back. The content libraries perfectly work.
Does anybody have any other suggestion?
This software surprises me more and more.
God bless Blender!!

I forgot to mention that all the content of ContentCluster folder has been erased! O_o'

In that case you case fix it easy but long process:
0) Exit DAZ Studio if running.
a) Start DIM (DAZ Install Manager)
b) Change to "Installed" products tab in DIM.
c) Check the box "Products" (all installed products get checked)
d) click the green "Start Queue" button
e) Depending on how many products you have it can take a few hours for all products to uninstall.
f) After all products are uninstalled, check the CMS dB location you have configured in DIM & DAZ Studio. Correct them to match if they don't. Check the location of your DAZ Studio Content Library in DIM. Check the location of your DAZ Studio and Poser in DAZ Studio. Correct if wrong.
g) Now in DIM go to the "Ready to Install" tab and check the "Products" box (all products should get checked)
h) Now click the green "Start Queue" button and again depending on how many products you have the installs could take hours or even overnight. Long than uninstalling.
i) Start DAZ Studio & Smart Content should be correct.
+++++
Otherwise, just reimport metadata from the CMS dB:
a) Go to your Smart Content tab in DAZ Studio
b) Right Mouse Button lick on the actual tab portion of the Smart Content Tab
c) From that popup menu ... select "Content DB Maintenance"
d) Check Re-Import Metadata
e) Accept
f) Restart DAZ Studio.
g) In the Smart Content tab make sure if CMS is not running you click the blue button in DAZ Studio to start CMS. If not logged in automatically when DAZ Studio Starts press the blue Login button make sure you log in.
You can also select the tiems in the Installed tab, right-click, and choose the option to reinstall using the current path.
Did you not have a back up of your content managment databse folder - the default, in AppData, should be caught by most back up systems I'd think.
Thank you for the suggestions but I lost (I don't know why and how) the cms content so I could not restore the connection. Never mind because I needed to re-organize the db...
... new problem...
I reinstalled DAZ Studio and the Installation Manager. I only use free and custom Assets . I installed Genesis 8 and a couple of custom assets but I could not see them in the smart content. I imported the metadata with the DB Mantainance and I can see them. I installed something else and I had to import again manually the metadata to see them in the Smart Content. So, the smart content works but does not import independently the metadata. Why?
Are you not installing the new products via DIM? Only installed via DIM will cause the CMS metadata to be imported I think.
Example, WilmaP's (aka Pusey Design) many nice free clothing models for DAZ characters do not show up in Smart Content unless you do manual dB maintenance because I installed Pusey Design's content manually not via DIM. When I then do db maintenance her products show in Smart Content.
I installed all the packages via DIM. Anyway I found a "solution":
1. Change CMS folder path.
2. Restar Windows
3. Switch back to the old CMS path
4. Restart Windows
5. Everything works
Now I cannot install a plugin. The installation plugin goes on but the plugin is not installed in the DAZ Studio plugin folder. I also added a string to the Regedit that specifies the path for 64bit plugins but nothing happens.
After 18 months this software still surprises me for all the inconveniences and the controversial behaviours.
Is the path for 32- and 54-bit software properly set in DIM Advanced Settings -> Installation? What about the path for DAZ Studio in the Applications tab? Try installing the plugin while Studio not running. (This is a .dll? Just checking, Richard)
Well the CMS path is in both DIM & DAZ Studio preferences and should match & if you have both release & public betas of DAZ Studio installed both the CMS paths should match too. The Content Library paths all of those have should match should match. The DAZ Studio install path should match. DAZ Studio does not care about the DIM download location or other locations for uninstalled product files or their manifests & that configuration data as only DIM uses that.
You need to carefully review your Preferences in both your DAZ Studio install(s) (you can have a release & public beta both installed) and DAZ Install Manager (DIM) to see that they match where they share path names. It's those shared path names that allow DAZ Studio & DIM to work properly together. If they don't you need to correct them. After you have corrected them and are sure they match you can use DIM to batch uninstall & then reinstall the products, including the plugins, and your problem will get solved. You shouldn't even have to reboot as it's not postgres SQL having a problem like it sometimes does.
The path is correct and the same for both DAZ and DIM.
I will work on it and find a solution. Unfortunately Coronavirus Alert give me a lot of extra time to spend at home on my PC.
It happened again.
After the new installation of DAZ Studio and the installation of a few assets. Everything worked fine but I wanted to test the stability of the database. I exported the metadata, resetted the db and reimported the metadata. Well, cms postgreSQL has resetted again and I cannot have acces to smart content and logh in.
The only way is to reinstal DS and DIM (I tried only DIM but it's not enough) and reinstalled the metadata from the support folder.
Well now they you have a clear & concise list of how to reproduce the bug you should report it to DAZ 3D so they can fix it.
I think they already know this kind of problems but the simply don't know how to solve them. The forum is full of people reporting problems with this software. I dedicated my spare time to this software in the last 18 months trying to know it better and understand if it really worth something. I never judge something if I don't know it better. I found a database that really sucks and the slowest slowness in the simulation and animation compartments. Models are beautiful and ready but without them this software is nothing compared to others. Well, someone could say that I should not have great expectation from a free software but my answer will always be "BLENDER". Daz Studio does not deserve anymore my attention.
May this be an advice for all the newbies in search of answers.
While sme people do have issues with the database it isn't the norm, and in many cases the issue can be isolated and resolved. I'm sorry you've had these issues, but I don't believe they are typical or solely attributable to DS/PostgreSQL.
