Lost and Found filling up
in The Commons
Pretty new to DAZ so sorry if this is a basic question... I am confused by the Lost and Found category in Smart Content. Nearly 1/4 of my products end up there for some reason and they are things I have bought through the DAZ Store (downloaded via DIM), not 3rd party content. Is there a way to get these products to go where they should be (ie Environments, Wardrobe, etc)? And why are they stuck in Lost and Found to begin with? Additionally, there seems to be no organization within L&F so that makes things even harder to find.
Again sorry if this has been answered before but I couldn't find any previous posts about this...
Thanks for any help.

incomplete metadata (eg. old pre-Genesis products, product hint thumbnails, etc.)
or
a product has multiple items that fall in several categories (eg. hair product with light render settings, non-purchaseable bonus items from a bundle, etc.)
You can categorize from the Content Library but it's a pain if you have several hundred/thousand items to fix.
Any item that does not have a default category defined in the metadata will end up in Lost and Found, like older Poser products, or those with errors in their metadata (wrong path, filename or product name are most common). An item can be in several categories at the same time without causing any problems.
Categorizing them moves them out of Lost and Found, whether you use existing default categories or make your own.
Could your database be corrupt? Have you tried resetting the DB and then reloading the metadata? Sorry not at my Daz PC at the moment, or I'd give you the precise thins to click, I believe it's right clicking the menu button that looks like parallel lines to access the data base utilities.
Most of my purchases are for 'new' items (not older than Gensis 2 in 95% of the cases) so it isn't restricted to just an "older items" issue. Is there a way to tell if the db is corrupt? By resetting the database, will that set it to DAZ default locations or will it keep my preferences for Library location that I set up during DS install and which has been working for all the rest of my purchased products?
Alternately how do you 'categorize" things stuck in Lost and Found like Northof45 and y3kman suggested? I don't want to mess around with editing metadata because I will certainly mess something up through ignorance that way... lol. But I would like things to show up in Smart Content like they are supposed to.
Many thanks for any suggestions!
Unfortunatel, I have found that with every cart purchase at least one new item will end up in Lost and Found. That is besides anything that was published before metadata was used, or if you have Poser and Daz Studio ticked on your DIM. Even if you only download the DS files, Das Studio thinks files are missing (the Poser files). I have been told by Customer Service they will not fix metadata for SKUs below 30000.
Slosh did a YouTube video on metadata that was the best that I found. It made sense. And it is free. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-sdHEBNCB4
But sometimes, a new item is really missing items that should be in the product. Look at the promo from the store and the files that should have been included and downloaded. A new character recentely was missing all her eye materials. I submitted a ticket and the character was fixed within the past few weeks.
Resetting the database will clear it out completely, but not affect the location. You can re-import the metadata to get back the existing metadata, but only as good as it is. Not to say it is all bad, but there shouldn't be that many errors in the metadata (1/4 of your products is a very high failure rate). However, there could be a stray file or two, like vanity icons for store links, that don't get categorized.
Before you reset anything, try re-importing the metadata for a problem product first to see if it changes the situation. Find a product in DIM Installed tab, and right-click, select "Re-Import Metadata" (you can do more than one at a time). Go back and check if it is still in Lost and Found. In the Content Library check if the items for that product have the colored flashes in the upper right corner that identify the content type (i.e., Actor, Material, Prop, etc.).
I would not recommend making wholesale changes, those are morep likely to sow confusion than to help. Find the uncategorised files, right-click, and select Categorise - then select the category you want them in. In Products view remember that a product will appear in every category to which one or more of its files belong, so appearing in Lost and Found is often down to something like a store link - and will not interfere with using the actual content that does stuff in DS.
Thank you very much to everyone for the info and suggestions. I will attempt to categorize the heap of purchases that exist in my Lost and Found and/or re-import metadata. As a newer user, I've only used the slick Smart Content feature, but I guess I will have to get used to using the the older Categories section of the Content Library. Seems to be the exact same funcitonality, just an older, less-polished layout.
Again, thanks all.
