and another question who this character might be. (Ling hair, main image) :
Why don'y vendors simply add the character, or explain it is a private one or whatever ????? It would make things so much easier...
thanks for reading and, I hope, replying.

here's a pic. might make it easier...

She look like a BlueJaunte (vendor) character https://www.daz3d.com/bluejaunte
Could be a light morph of Amira https://www.daz3d.com/amira-hd--expressions-hd-for-genesis-8-female
Thank you, FirstBastion.
You may well be spot on!
I'd also guess Amira is mixed in somewhere (and it seems to be her textures, albeit with fibrebrows added), but I think there's other morphs mixed in.
As far as the first part:
- Because the character is not for sale on the Daz store
- Because the vendor may not know; a lot of promo art is outsourced to other artists.
- Because, unless it's one of the vendor's own products, the vendor gets no return on the time spent checking and linking the dozens of products they may have used. Very few people will buy their product as a "thank you" for listing a product used in the promos.
Or, if you want to be cynical, a vendor arguably gets more advertising by not listing the products and having all the "Who/what is this product in these promos" topics show up on the forums.
As far as the second: Because it's nothing to do with the product on sale, and the store search gets confused enough without vendors adding a load of unrelated keywords to the description.
She's quite lovely. I agree that face is possibly using a bit of a Amira's morph.
And just to add to Matt's list:
It's not that PAs are being deliberately stingy with that sort of information. :) If I use a character out of the box, I'll list it. If it's 50% Babina 8 and 25% BJ Amira and the rest just a bunch of tiny bits of other characters along with Zelara 8's skin, for example, it makes no sense to try and list all that. The customers probably wouldn't have a clue why all those characters were listed when you can't really see them in the artwork and all you'd get is confusion. If it was just, say, Babina wearing Zelara's textures, that might make sense to list, as people could probably tell that the morph was obviously Babina, and the skin is Zelara's if they looked at both product pages. As far as custom character morphs go, there really isn't anywhere to put a note like "Character used is a custom morph" or "Character not available for sale" on the forms when we submit our products. And yes, for outsourced promos we may not even know what was used. Plus there's the fact that not every custom-dialed character used for a promo is going to be so fabuluos that customers all want to know who she is. The few that do get that kind of attention (the Goldtassel promo girl, Alice, etc.) are presumably unavailable because they essentially serve as a form of branding for their creators' products.
Let me be even more cynical: because you don't have a right to know what other artists use for their art. I think it's great when artists choose to share, and I do so myself, but I take real issue with the idea that they should be required to. The one and only job of promo art is to advertise the specific product being sold.
I have to agree. For me personally I don't go around looking at promo art and trying to recreate it. It might give me ideas, but if so, I then take it and do my own take on it. We have all these amazing products that we can use parts of to form our own creations, yet it seems more and more that users just want to click and render. Yeah I know, no time, I have a life, blah blah. I have a life and limited time also.
It's funny, I look at all the requests for info on promos in the forum to see if I can help because i have been doing this awhile and look at all the stores daily. 8 times out of 10, there is never a definitive answer on what the product is, usually only speculation. how it that any different than just opening up DS and creating your own vision.
I got one, I thought I was going to break the mold and list EVERYTHING. Turns out, you don't use every promo image you make. Ouch.
What a waste.
I even try to list 'what I used' for my own records and that list is almost never accurate because I keep changing my mind.
I fully understand the desire and the frustration of not being able to find the thing that caught your attention -
but also understand the challenges of getting it right.
---
I pose a character and the jacket looks funny, so I swap it out - from the FILES menu.
Then I have to navigate to the actual product's folder and then from there, find it in the store to get its official name and link.
Nah, too much.
If you ask on the forum, there's almost always someone who just used it and knows the product - even older stuff.
And some of the Dazzernites have great eyes and pick up on the smallest clues.
And sometimes, in one of these threads the creator of the promo image pops in and lists all the bits and pieces and a newbie is introduced to the most wonderful treasure trove of items from Aiko 3 or Victoria 4 or Michael 3's time.
Since I joined half-way through Gen3, I had not looked at Generation 3. I went on a wishlist hunt and bought like mad as I could afford items, converted them up the generations and have used them in little ways here and there. But that example, if it had been on the original promo documentation would have needed a page by itself. I don't want to recreate an image, but the items, used again today. Now that I want to do.
So anytime a PA or an artist who prepares a promo or a render and is kind enough to share their time to gift us with what they used, I will gratefully accept. And I will keep an eye out for the PA's current offerings and make a point to purchase.

Thanks all for your replies. I always appreciate different points of view because they show the 'problem' from different sides, all of which are as personal as is mine.
Thing is that quite often, and especially when I look at a character in the marketplace, there is a complete and huge list of everything that has been used in the promo images: hair, clother, shoes, ... you name it.
So I assumed that it would be normal to also name the character when selling hair, clothes etc. I find it a sign of respect for the other vendor to mention this. As a sidenote: when it is a character they created themselves, it is indeed regularly mentioned.
And like I wrote in my first mail, the mentioning could also be that it is private.
Another thing is that here, on this The Commons forum, I often see threads of people looking for some item used in promo images. Usually there is someone who tries to help. This could be easier and even become unnecessary with a simple mention, that's all.
This said: I did purchase and the hair, and another hair from this same vendor, and also Bluejaunte's Amira.
So I don't assume there is any problem or need to continue the sledgehammer arguments.
