Hat and Hair Help

Hi -

Would someone provide me a link or explain to me what to do in order to not have hair popping through hats and hoods "without buying another add-on"?

Thanks

I think the fastest option, if it is not dForce hair, would be to enter geometry editor and hide the hair that is popping out. Usually hair is made of enough polygons that you should be able to hide only what is popping up.

deformers can help (top of DS - create - new D-form). They basically let you deform the mesh in various ways. I would add one to the head or hair and them play with the scaling options to hide the hair under the hat. You can also use the geometry editor to select parts of the hair (polygons) and hide them.

  • I use the geometry editor, either select all the hair popping out, or all the hair that's correct then invert the selection, and then hide or delete it. Personally I create a new group and assign it there, then I can rehide it when I reload it or remove the hat.

this geometry editor tool method is a good idea.  I've been stupidly rendering twice (one with hair and one without) and then removing in post...

You might also find a Push Modifier with a weight map useful, as that moves the hair in/out relative to its surface (dForms scale relative to a centre point). You can also do two renders, one with and one without hair, laer them, and erase the poke-through that way (though you'd probably still want to have the edges of the covering working in the render).

Silly me. I bought SY Hat and Hair Helper (Genesis 3), and only after I have done the most that it will do---sometimes it's enough---do I resort to geometry editing or push modifying, which can sometimes cause less than natural results if I'm not careful and circumspect.

I like it too, and although it's not infallible I would recommend it to anyone who needs something like it, can afford it, and isn't afraid to fiddle with a couple dozen morph dials to get what they want. But OP was asking for options that didn't involve buying more stuff.

Some hairs come with a hat morph, would be nice if more vendors did that, it's not a lot of extra work when you're creating morphs anyway.  Other hairs include both hat + morph.

I see. I didn't read the entire OP. Thanks for pointing that out.
