content location

KeithHKeithH Posts: 338

I thought I chose an external drive for my content during the installation earlier this morning. However, I do not see anything where it might be installing my content.

I thought I chose my Z: drive during the install.

How do I check to see where it is installing my content?

Thank you

How did you install your content? With DIM, Connect (Install tab inside DS), or manually?

When you say you see nothing installed, do you mean inside DS content library or on your drive?

    Using DIM or Connect?

If DIM, then within DIM you can go to the "Installed" tab, right-click one of the products (I'm assuming you are on a PC - no idea how to on Mac) and select "Show Installed Files" - it will say at the top where it has installed them - you can also click on any of the individual files listed there and it will take you to that location.

I have no experience of Connect, so no idea there.

Using DIM to do the install

    Thank you -
Could of swarn I chose my Z: during the installlation. It is currently installing it all to: C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library instead.

How would I change it's location and just copy the files over without re-installing it all? I want it on an external size to save space on my boot drive.

    Thanks

    Few questions:

1> I re-installed everything and some of my purchased items show up under "Saved Files", How can I change this?

2> When I copy my presets, svaed files and scenes to my "C:\Users\study\OneDrive\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library", they do not show up in DAZ like they did before I re-installed everything, what do I do to make them show up?

3> I want to move my content to an external drive. Not sure how to do this.

    Thanks
    Keith

    1. Uninstall with DIM
    2. Change the install location in DIM and also add it to Daz Studio Content Directory Manager.
    3. Reinstall with DIM.

Install ONE product and check that it's showing up in Daz Studio and your external drive before proceeding to install any other products

I am hoping I got it correct this time. The base sets are re-installing now. I put the program and all content to my Z: drive assuming I did this right.

    Will post letting you know

Using the One Drive folder may break the references in DS, if it is looking for the plain \Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library folder.

You can set the path used for content by going to Edit>Preferences>Content, clicking the Content Directory Manager button, and either editing the existing paths or adding new ones. If you install via Install Manager it too needs to know the patsh to use - either maually configure or download http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/install_manager_config/start and drag the script into your DS Viewport to run it.

To remove the files from Saved Files yu need to categorise them differently, via rght-clck menu and selecting new categories.

Also, make sure you point to the folders within DS (Preferences>Content>Content Manager Directory...)

Merged threads since they are both on reinstallation issues.

I did do this - It has been quite an experience.

Now I am trying to figure out how to delete these broken product links. These have not been re-installed yet, I just want to remove them.

    Thank you

Sorry for all the confused questions but what is the difference between these three?

    My DAZ 3D Library

    My Library

    My Connect Library

  • KeithHKeithH Posts: 338

My Library <<-- stuff I create

My DAZ 3D Library <<-- stuff DIM installs

Now if I could get rid of these broken links.

Confident I have the correct settings for the folders now. Appreciate the help.
Still lacking broken links as stated above.

    NOW: The "My Library" Folder.

When I copy saved files and preset folders back into this folder, they do not show up in DAZ Studio.

    Thank you

I'm in the same boat, Keith.  I didn't have nvidia on my desktop, and my laptop went on permanent strike anyway, so I bought a new gaming laptop with a quick processor and nvidia graphics card, but it only has 1tb hd, so I have an 8tb external to hold all my Daz content.  Frustrating to me is everything seems to be loading to the SSD, including all downloads, desktop, etc., which I don't want.  Anyway, thanks for this thread, will be watching.

Where were the files, where are they now, and what are the content directory settings?
