what is Skinray 2?

I see some products popping up all over the place with 'Iray' then 'skinray 2' on it. What exactly is it please? is it the same or different from any HD characters also? try to explain in simple terms too.

    Skinray is a set of skin enhancement shaders made by Adam Thawaites, the most recent version is currently available free on his MostDigital Creations site and modifies old 3DL and Poser textures to look better in Iray..

    Sort of. It changes the skin surface settings. The freebie is just version 1.2 while version 2 is included with Adam's paid characters.

    A similar product found here at the store is the Anagenessis 2.

    A better product that provides more options is Altern8.

    I wouldn't say Altern8 is BETTER, as NGS2 can yield some pretty amazing results and works better on older pre-iray product.  It's definitely EASIER to get certain effects with products that are already in Iray with Altern8.

    edit - The one being given away is mainly for converting older NON-iray skins from the V4, Genesis and Genesis 2 generations to Iray.

    skinray 2 is a legitimate IRay skin shader. As with all skin shaders/textures, perception rules, but I think it does a good job. Attached is a render of one of the newest MostDigital characters with included HDRI and "out of the box" skinray 2.

    It's good but as always it's down to preference; I still use Agenesis 2 more than Altern 8, and I have both.

    Sometimes i get results that i like more from skinray than from anagenessis, it's different :)

    Doesn't surprise me. I never get results from Anagenesis that I like at all. That's why I stopped using it at all.

    To be honest, all these products that change the surface settings give mixed results. It still depends on the default skin setting/material.

    One could look great with Anagenessis while looking terrible with Altern8, Skinray2, etc. A figure could look like a pale alien with Anagenessis because of the SSS.

    Genesis 3. Stopped using any older version since the models (and textures even when "converted") don't look as good to me. I bought Anagenesis 2 and couldn't get consistent results for a start and didn't like what I could get better than the Studio skins. Without trying to upset anybody, I don't care what others think on this topic. I'm happy with my results.
