no idea what it is.  looks like a twilight kinda movie.  havent seen those either.

I saw much of the sequence of those movies.  Curiosity to see what happens at the end got the best of me.  Saw enough to get the gist of it.  Meh, OK I guess if you're between 15 and 25.  Best way to watch them is with a well oiled fast-forward button and a healthy ambivalence to details.

We saw the first one.  Pretty good.  I think there's two sequals, but I could be wrong...haven't kept up.  Not like Twilight, as far as I know.  never saw that.  But no sparkly vampires.  Futuristic setting...not a pretty future.

...OK was doing some map research of northern Wisconsin when I came across this:

So this was the real reason the Colonials were so hot too find that "shining planet called "Earth" so they could launch a final counter-strike.

Well, them too.  Except that I didn't even attempt to watch more than the trailers of them.  Teenage vampires & werewolves, bah humbug.  That schtick has gone on for far too long.indecision

I don't hate every movie.  Really I don't.  Just the ones with hormone hyped people in them.wink

I believe this all comes down to my ho-hum attitude about most fiction.  Bedtime stories for Bonzo.  Nothing new under the sun.

However, not a movie, but a show I find entertaining at the moment is "Avenue 5".   https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10234362/   A space comedy series about a huge luxurious spaceship cruiseliner full of typically moronic, self-absorbed, obnoxious people on a few week, luxurious tourist spacecruise around Saturn that gets knocked off course by an asteroid.  They lose their one and only knowlegable technician.  The cruise-line owner is on board and is the worst moron of all, tries to bully everybody about.  But the slightly lesser moronic, totally fake "captain" of the ship (Hugh Laurie) tries to maintain order.  The passengers hate each other already,  and they will now all have to find a way to survive and get along with each other for the three years it will take to get back to Earth instead of the expected short cruise.  A micro-capsule of humanity.  Sort of a comedic modern "Ship Of Fools".  See, nothing new under the sun.

Hugh Laurie?  As in the actor who played in House?  That movie about a mouse? Jeeves and Wooster?  What was the mouse boy movie again?

Where did I put my tv remote?  Found my glasses though.  One problem with smart tv is that if you cannot find the remote, it is hard to use.  The only button on the tv is to turn it on or off.  At least I just found my remote.

Trying to see if I can watch House.  Yep it is on prime, but have I seen it all?  If not where did I leave off.

Found Avenue 5 but oh dear i have no way to watch it.  It is an HBO thing and I do not want yet another subscription service.

was a sick movie.  doesn't seem so far-fetched.  some terrible non-humane nonsense in the world. (deleted rant about abuses on the elderly)

i was watching the original ST when i was 10, when i was developing my morality.  i was taught humane by capt kirk and mr spock.  certainly didn't come from my biological relatives.

From whom or what are 10 year olds learning their ethics these days?

the movie did try to show why the games were wrong.  i hope the message wasn't too subtle.

Found out there is a Sherlock Holmes played by a Will Farrell.  Doubt it is the same as Robert Downey Jr's version or Benedict Cumberbatch version.  Probably Mr Holmes played by Ian Mckellen would be better than Will Farrel.

Drat, Benedict's Sherlock is only on Netflix and I do not have it right now.

Oh, it's true.  I often told my friend that there are only a handful of stories.  The difference is how they're told, the period in which they're set, and how well the story is told.

Hugh Laurie?  Where is this show?  I suppose it's on a pay channel somewhere.  Or BBC?

Complaint:  Arghhh..., the wireless keyboard to my nice new super desktop DAZ machine didn't turn on this morning.  OK, says I, it must be batteries.  I open the battery compartment and remove the first battery.  But the 2nd battery won't slide out from its position mostly hidden under the plastic case.  So, I force it a little with the point of a letter opener and  then I see it.  White crusty debris.  Oh no!  Corroded battery.no  So, after removing 14 screws and sweating over trying to figure out how to separate the halves of the keyboard without snapping something important, I finally get it open and yes indeedy, massively corroded battery stuck deep in the socket. sad  So, I dig out the white vinegar and alcohol and Q-tips and go to work.

Non-complaint:  It took me at least a half hour to fix the situation but my keyboard is back together and working.  Yay! yes

Is it me or are batteries more prone to leaking than they used to be?

It could just be that we tend to use so many more of them  that we notice it more

I haven't really visited this thread for over a month... I've been bummed out and not feeling very funny or like making humorous complaints...

At some point I'll go back and read what's been going on, so sorry if I'm interrupting anything serious.

But, since a couple of us have complained about fast food a few times, I thought I'd share this observation...

I was eating some leftover KFC... (more like KFP... "P" for pigeon) and noticed how small the pieces have gotten...

That's what passes for a drumstick now... in case you were wondering if that's a wing part or something.

Too bad I didn't snarf down the rest so quickly... next time I'm going to peice the bird together to figure out an approximate size... but based on that leg it look like it would be about 50% larger than a regular pigeon...

My wireless mouse needs batteries I fear.  They are the cheapest at dollar tree.  I hope they are good enough for my mouse.  Wonder if I can convince mum to take me to dollar tree.

I called out of work, because of some confusion about rides.  My stepfather did get me to the mall where I work.  Even though I called out via text, my boss still wanted me to work.  She said I could wait till noon, so I went to the survey spot.  Did two surveys that paid today, and a third that will pay next week.  Not able to go back there for a new survey until March 6 or 8th.  I like that survey place and I think they like me.

i did get to work a tad after 12 but not too much.  At least, I did some surveys or I would be eating ramen noodles.

i had a co worker asked me a few years ago with a serious face, if the buffalo wings were real.

i was like, what ,you never saw a flying  buffalo?

and blue cheese comes from blue cows.  i guess it could come from blue smurfs.

Which is interesting because here in my local small town (I mean really really small) grocery store, the meat department packages chicken breasts the size of small cats.  I swear, those birds must be at least as big as a small turkey or a 3 foot tall dinosaur.  I have to pick through the singly packaged breasts to find the smaller ones (~1lb) because experience has taught me that the larger ones (~1.5lb) are often tough or at least harder to cook properly.  I stand and stare at the pre-packaged dinosaur parts and think, "my god, where do these beasts come from? And more importantly what do they feed them and are they radioactive?".

Grocery store chicken is normal size... a normal cheap drumstick would be 3x the size of that... the chicken frying chain uses tiny cheap birds because they sell it on a per piece basis... so basically you can sell $2 worth of chicken for $15... sale price chicken parts are about $1.50 per pound around here...
The larger birds are often tough because they are older "retired" egg layers... only they retired to the grocery store freezer instead of Boca Raton.

  • Do usb drives ever go bad?

    Short answer: "Yes".

Long answer: "Eventually, but will usually last as long as you need them to."

Realistic answer: "Don't buy cheap ones, get good ones like San-Disk.  Don't buy them at office supply stores ($$$).  Get them on-line at places like NewEgg.com or Amazon.  Don't rely on them and they'll last forever.  Rely greatly on them and they'll die tomorrow.  Keep backups!"
