Question about the .99 cents sale

So bought a BUNCH of stuff, love this sale in particular because I was able to finally get stuff I wanted for a long time.  Even the older stuff like the Regency items from Ness Period Reproductions just made me so happy.

One issue so this is the question.  Do I need to manually download and install these older items?  They are not showing up in my DIM!  I've waited about an hour for them to hit my account, they are there but not showing in DIM!  I know the sale has the servers slowed down a bit but if they are in my account and product library I would assume that DIM would show them unless they are just not part of the DIM listings as of yet or they are soon to be retired products.  Not sure.

Lemme know,

Thank you,
Richard

There are problems with DIM today, new purchases don't seem to appear for quite a few people. It has been reported to Daz.

In the meantime you can try downloading the zips manually and putting them in DIM downloads folder, you should be able to install them with DIM afterwards.

  • Yesterday I bought a couple of items but they wouldn't appear in DIM, but today I was able to download them one at a time with DIM. So after that I purchased 8 sale items but now when I get one into DIM the download fails.

    Is everyone using DIM.

Why is noone using Connect? It's great!

I'm not using connect because my main DAZ Studio-running PC is not internet connected - I DIM-download on my laptop and transfer them on a memory stick. I think there are quite a few others who do the same thing.

OK, I'll check my DIM tomorrow then.  No worries!

...why, because some of us have spent time setting up custom categorised library/runtime structures on different drives to deal with the lack of a standard content naming convention.  Been doing so long before Smart Content which I found is not all that "smart" at times and takes up far too much display "real estate".  A real pain when the DB gets corrupted a well.

My C; drive is also small, just intended for boot up purposes and core programmes.

You don't have to install on C drive with Connect, you can setup your Connect content directory wherever you want.

I've tried for years now to embrace Daz Connect, hoping it would mature and be improved. I've submitted many help requests. I've given up.

    1. Packages sometimes will not install.correctly and display an error message in the log. The installed files are unusable and displayed as framed exclamation marks. Each product requires a help request to get it fixed. I've been waiting since December to get part of the Tristan 8 Pro Bundle fixed. Unacceptable.
    2. Many older packages (LoREZ Dogs for example) install with GUID null when installed with Daz Connect. They install with valid GUID when installed with DIM. Null GUID prevents some Daz Studio features from working, like Show Asset in Product.
    3. If anything ever goes wrong with the Database, if you installed with DIM, you can reset the database and reimport metadata. There is no such recovery with Daz Connect. If you reset the database, Daz Connect loses track of what products you had installed. All products are shown as uninstalled again, even though they are still on your hard disk. This is a big problem if you had installed only part of your product library. You have to manually figure out what to reinstall and reinstall them. I reported this years ago. It has not been fixed.
    4. Some Daz Original core character products have components that don't work right when installed with Daz Connect, and never get fixed, in spite of help requests being submitted. An example is Christian 8's eyebrows. They show up properly when installed with DIM and show up as gray blocks when installed with Daz Connect.
    5. Some products don't work at all or only partially work when installed with Daz Connect. Scripts are notorious for failing when installed with Daz Connect.
    6. Some products don't work with CONTENT that is installed with Daz Connect. An example is Content Bookmarks and Turbo Content.
    7. You cannot fix Daz Connect metadata errors yourself. For example, you cannot delete an incorrect metadata category. Every metadata error has to be reported to customer service in a help request and many never get fixed.
    8. Some product, like plugins CANNOT be installed with Daz Connect, so you still need DIM (or manual install??) to install those products.

I'm sure I could go on and on, but you get the drift. I'm using DIM again.

Oh, and what barbult mentions above.

  • I bought some things but will wait until it is fixed for download as was nothing urgently needed

I've also encountered the Tristan bundle problem. It's ridiculous. I had the problem for 4 items in the bundle. I submitted a ticket for them. I listed socks in krocks as the error item but also mentioned the other 3 items in the bundle with errors. I got an answer more than a month later with only socks in krocks fixed. I replied there are still items with errors and mentioned them again. No answer yet (over a week now).

What I didn't like about the DIM install, which I guess is a problem with Connect more than with DIM was that you have the icon of the item needing an update in the Smart Content pane. Only way to get rid of that is to select Install/Update but surprise surprise that doesn't update the DIM install but actualy installs with Connect which is just silly.

I had like 100 GB of doubled content before I figured it out. That's when I decided to uninstall everything I had with DIM and only install with Connect.

And even worse than wasted disc space with double content, is that when both are installed, it will always use Daz Connect one, which is the one most likely to NOT work. I now have a hodge podge of content previously installed with Daz Connect and more recent purchases installed with DIM.

...just downloaded and installed a bunch of stuff I purchased this weekend with the DIM and it all worked without a hitch.

All of the Connect-specific data goes in the foler set as the Connect Data directory.

And at least some products will not install correctly with Connect, once they have been installed with DIM (uninstalling them with DIM first - which you must do in any case as having them installed both ways is causing problems - does not fix it).
