how do you give a character a sun tan?

  You can use some of the tanning products in the store.

  1. Select the character in the scene tab

  2. Go to the surfaces tab and under the character select Skin-Lips-Nails

  3. Change the Translucency Weight - the Higher the weight the darker the skin will be

  Seriously though, it depends what material settings you use, is it iray, dsdefault, AOA? Is it SSS?

  Go sit in the sun. ha ha On a serious note: I would just use a bikini template and create a mask in photoshop. Then just darken the skin where the bikini is not in photoshop. If you don't have photoshop use Gimp. Remember less is more you don't want the end result to look sprayed on unless you do! If you do not want to do the work just buy a tanning product from the store.

  If you have the Jonah for Ollie 8 character the translucency color they use on Jonah's skin will make for a good tan if you apply it to the diffuse color of your character I think. It all depends on what spectrum of pink to mocha ot olive to deep dark brown you want the tan to be.

  Unless you mean tan to be Pantone tan or that famouse beige - search pantone tan & then used the three numbers they give on the diffuse color on the surfaces
