So sad today, that Kobe Bryant and his 13 year old daughter died in a helicopter crash this morning. (link)

Hubby and I both are still in shock.

I was watching tv (pro bowl) and saw the news.  I lost my focus and not sure if I got it fully back.    Not a basketball fan but still unnerving to me.

Ugh! That's so sad! I hope they didn't suffer!

I was really touched to see players from two teams dribble the ball for 24 seconds (Kobe's number) without taking a shot, which incurred penalties but was to honor Kobe. The entire gymnasium understood and erupted into applause, particularly when two of the red players, numbers 23 and number 1, stood together. So touching. The video is on CNN.

Such a sad loss, Kobe, his daughter both with such promise in the future years; and the other seven folks on the helicopter.

May they rest with God in peace.

It is really tragic. Not only did we lose Kobe, but his daughter was with him, she was only 13. There were other people in this crash, but we do not have names released yet. They say there were 9 people on board. The pilot plus 8 others. They were all flying to a youth basketball game. There were other parents and players on this flight, the players were just kids around his daughter's age. All of them are gone. It was obviously bad enough to read about Kobe, but then when they started saying his daughter was on there it just crushed me. She had a very bright future ahead of her. Just 13.

There are pics of them together smiling at each other on the sidelines at games, and now those pics take on a whole new meaning. They will be together forever.

As well as Kobe and Gianna Bryant, the baseball coach for Orange Coast College, John Altobelli, his wife and one daughter were also killed in the crash. My heart is aching for these families. It's always hard to lose someone so suddenly, but two or three members of the same family at once? Just heart breaking.

It's really sad, especially as the main reason they died is they were in a helicopter, which fly lower to the ground and are far more prone to accidents and wind sheer than any other form of aircraft.  I've flown in one and it's really impossible to shake the knowledge that, unlike even a jet plane that has some glide capability and structural stability, a helicopter is just a collapsing hunk of metal and glass if the engine fails.  And yet, people continue to treat them like airborne taxi services.  According to the news, Kobe bought the private helicopter because he found it uncomfortable to take long rides in cars...

Very shocking and sad news. Lives cut short. Goes to show a loved one can be taken in the blink of an eye.
