Is it possible to make a deformer stamp?

Wasnt sure hot to explain it other than a stamp in the title, but the idea is to make a deformer the same shape as an object and use that as the "Stamp" for a deformer.

I am thinking of something like when you lay a character on a couch for example, would it be possible to make a deformer the same rough shape as the part of the figure interacting with the couch. I understand how to use a basic deformer, but it seems very clunky when it comes to designing a custom morph for a collision for example.

  • Not automatically. You could add a weight map to the dFormer, or you might be able to get acceptable results with dForce.

Dforce might work here as Richard points out, and Mesh grabber is a new tool that can help in some situations as well.

There are a few tools for handling things like this, but I am not sure if they still work or how well they actually work.

For one example... SimTenero Shape Reprojector https://www.daz3d.com/simtenero-shape-reprojector

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/101056/simtenero-shape-reprojector-commercial/p2

However, if you go to the more advanced tools for the simple "Dformer Tool", you will find that you have the ability beyond the initial set of tools, which includes the ability to create your own weight-mapping for the deformer tool. (You paint deform-strength on the model itself.) If the couch has enough detail, you can get a good depression contour deformation to simulate a model sitting in it. As well as deform the model so they look like they are also deformed from sitting in the chair. Since it is not only furniture that deforms when you sit.

I can't go into all the details of how to ADD the weight-mapping to the tool, and how to paint weight-mapping with that tools brush... But there are a few good detailed threads in the forums and videos on youtube, if you google it. Google this -> (Daz3d Dformer weight mapping)

Quick and dirty help post, sort-of... https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/110056/d-former-how-do-i-add-a-weight-map
